JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Senior Director, Operations

REPORTS TO: VP Clean Infrastructure Solutions (or their designate)

DIRECT REPORTS: Team of approx. 15

TYPE: In office + on-site requirements

DESIGNATIONS: Licensed P. Eng (ON) required

LOCATION: Toronto, ON

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with owners, contractors and internal sales and solutions teams as needed to provide input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope determination and enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment as needed.
  • Highly knowledgeable and proficient in the supervision, design, engineering, installation, start-up and commissioning of central utility plant equipment, HVAC systems, building automation, renewables and on-site generation
  • Acts as the primary on-site leader and customer representative for execution teams on assigned Develops project schedules, resource plans and executes and manages on-time-on-budget outcomes according to these plans for assigned projects
  • Ensures all work follows provincial, local and federal legal and code requirements and operates on the job with the highest of

  • Reviews and interprets contract Terms and Conditions, insurances and bonding requirement and works with President, Energy Solutions to commercially de-risk undertaking contracted projects.
  • Analyzes financial reporting and project schedules to proactively address potential Effectively communicates project progress, issues and financial status to management as required.
  • Manages risks and establishes project recovery plans when required. Resolves disputes with minimal need for
  • Negotiates, prepares and issues subcontract agreements and terms and condition to equipment suppliers, trades and consulting

  • Oversees project construction for compliance with specifications, codes and installation
  • Manages the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of materials to be procured for the projects
  • Develops, maintains and manages viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants and subcontractors. Manages job progress meetings as required. Ensures subcontractors understand expectations of the
  • Coordinates with the VP Clean Infrastructure and Project Managers for selection and allocation of internal and external resources required to meet the assigned projects and their objectives through the methodology of strong matrix project management and planning
  • Ensures any engineering and commissioning performed by the field team is in accordance with all federal, provincial and municipal established codes and standards. Works to develop a continuous improvement program with respect to project solutions and system functional and performance commissioning to achieve optimal outcomes in each area

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management
  • Licensed Eng. (Ontario) required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • CEM designation an asset
  • IHSA - Supervision certificate
  • Knowledge and experience with Procore an asset
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license
  • Specific experience in Healthcare and Higher Education work environments is an asset
  • Performance Contracting/ESCo experience an asset


ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
  • 10+ years of Project Management experience in the built environment with projects that include Energy Performance Contract project management, Mechanical / Plumbing Retrofits, HVAC controls, renewables, and general construction
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and foster cohesive teamwork with a team of direct reports, with responsibility for their career growth, training and annual performance evaluations.
  • Professional presence with strong oral and written communication skills to prepare reports, briefing notes and presentations, and to liaise with consultants/contractors, partners and clients
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills to discuss and resolve issues, encourage good working relationships and performance to deliverables
  • Critical persuasion and negotiation skills to obtain agreement on incorporating contract changes that may have impacts on schedules, deliverables and budget
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical solutions to a non-technical
  • Proficient in Project Management software (MS Project) and financial accounting
  • Comfort and capability using MS Office tools.
