Position Overview

The Senior Director of Transportation is a senior operational and strategic leadership role responsible for driving excellence across all LTL (Less-than-Truckload), parcel, and courier delivery channels within Cencora's US Supply Chain organization. Reporting to the VP of the Global Transportation CoE, this leader owns end-to-end transportation performance, service quality, cost management, and long-term strategy - ensuring that Cencora's delivery capabilities meet the evolving needs of our customers and business while remaining financially disciplined and operationally excellent.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Performance & Service Delivery
  • Own and drive delivery performance metrics across LTL, parcel, and courier channels, including on-time delivery, damage rates, exception management, and carrier scorecards.
  • Establish and maintain service level standards aligned to customer expectations and Cencora's commitments.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for service failures, partnering with carriers and internal operations teams to resolve systemic issues.
  • Implement continuous improvement programs to elevate service quality across all delivery modes.


Budget & Cost Management
  • Own the transportation P&L for USSC, managing budgeted-to-actual cost performance across LTL, parcel, and courier spend.
  • Develop annual transportation budgets in partnership with Finance, providing detailed variance analysis and forecasting throughout the fiscal year.
  • Identify and execute cost optimization opportunities through carrier negotiations, mode optimization, network design, and demand planning alignment.
  • Drive accountability for cost-per-shipment, cost-per-mile, and other key financial efficiency metrics across the transportation portfolio.


LTL, Parcel & Courier Strategy
  • Develop and execute a multi-year transportation strategy for LTL, parcel, and courier services within USSC, aligned to the broader Global Transportation CoE vision.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to carrier mix, contract structures, and delivery models to improve both cost and service outcomes.
  • Monitor market trends, carrier capacity dynamics, and emerging delivery technologies to inform strategic decisions.
  • Lead RFP processes, carrier selection, and contract negotiations across all relevant transportation modes.


Stakeholder & Carrier Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key carrier partners, holding them accountable to contractual service and cost commitments.
  • Serve as the senior transportation voice for USSC within the Global Transportation CoE, representing regional needs and priorities in global strategy discussions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Distribution Operations, Customer Experience, Sales, Finance, and IT to align transportation capabilities with business requirements.
  • Engage regularly with senior leadership to communicate performance, risks, and strategic initiatives.


Data, Analytics & Reporting
  • Champion the use of data and analytics to drive transportation decision-making, partnering with technology and analytics teams to build robust reporting capabilities.
  • Maintain executive-level dashboards and reporting on service, cost, and carrier performance for USSC transportation operations.
  • Leverage technology capabilities including transportation management system (TMS), track-and-trace applications, and parcel manifesting solutions to optimize routing, carrier selection, and shipment visibility.


Team Leadership
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of transportation managers and analysts across LTL, parcel, and courier functions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-first thinking.
  • Attract and retain top transportation talent, building organizational capability for the future.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, operations management, business administration, engineering, healthcare administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Master's degree in supply chain, logistics, operations, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, distribution, operational leadership, carrier strategy, vendor management, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of experience in a management capacity required.
  • Certification in Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD), Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM), or equivalent preferred.
