Job Summary

The Senior Director - Investor Relations for Global Industrial, is a strategic function of corporate management. Combining the disciplines of finance and communications, the successful candidate will provide the investment community with an accurate portrayal of the company’s performance and prospects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the company is appropriately and strategically positioned with analysts, investors, and all stakeholders. The individual is responsible for creating the appropriate strategy, framework, and tactics, as well as for providing a very compelling investor relations roadmap. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It also requires the ability to carefully manage relationships outside the company in the equity research and investor community as well as with debt holders and ratings agencies. Internally, the role includes preparing senior executives for their interaction with the investment community and acting as a conduit for information from the investment community to internal constituents across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a proactive investor relations strategy and narrative, in coordination with the C-Suite, ensuring that the company’s business strategy and progress is understood by the analyst and investor community.
  • Provides strategic recommendations associated with investment community perceptions to Senior Management.
  • Provides support to Senior Management, including counseling and advising executives regarding investor conference calls and events, presentations, press releases, earnings calls and financial filings as well as effective IR communications.
  • Assists Senior Management in decision making by anticipating potential investment community reaction to potential strategic and business initiatives.
  • Works closely with Executive team to lead and develop a high-performing investor relations and external communications operation that proactively positions and ensures a clear understanding of the Company’s strategy, competitive position, operational performance, and value.
  • Sets objectives and processes for key business stakeholders in the Company to support the workstreams and deliverables and deliver on them.
  • A key point of contact with the investment community with the role of communicating and educating interested parties regarding the investment attributes of the company.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with analysts, investors, and prospective investors. This includes timely, consistent communications through in-person, virtual and telephone one-on-one and group investor meetings, conferences, NDR’s and other events utilizing written materials and presentations as appropriate.
  • Participates in earnings process, collaborating with Finance, Communications, Legal and business units. This includes the preparation of earnings scripts, earnings presentations and investor Q&A for Executive Management, as well as the preparation of earnings press release and review of select SEC filings.
  • For each year-end, participates in the development of the Annual Report, including design and content such as financial highlights, LTS and Board, management and shareholder information.
  • Identifies key opportunities and develops content to refine and augment the Company’s investor and corporate communications initiatives, strategic planning, and development of corporate messaging and materials.
  • Leads the planning and execution of investor and analyst events and partners closely with Finance/FP&A, Legal and other departments to ensure accurate, first-rate, appropriate materials for financial reporting, investor roadshows, analyst events and conferences, etc..
  • Monitors and assesses market and sector dynamics, investment research (including models and estimates) on the Company and its industry peers. Provides data and metrics-driven insights into the market and competitive landscape.
  • Ensures corporate communications strategies and activities integrate and complement investor relations activities.
  • Manages external agencies and vendors that are supporting investor relations and corporate communications activities. This includes the management of recurring deliverables such as Board reports as well as special request services
  • Develops investor confidence and belief in the company’s vision and strategy for delivering shareholder value.  
  • Collaborate with Sr. Leaders to build and maintain knowledge of Corporate ESG initiatives and Sustainability programs, including annual sustainability updates 
  • Analyzes and presents financial trends, competitor behavior, shareholder issues, and anything else that could impact the business.
  • Maintains strong company and sector expertise. Stays current on all company business activities, including financial and other material to be responsive to investors andall stakeholders, and to communicate effectively with management.
  • Updates and maintains investor presentations to ensure they are informative and accurate, and relevant to the current environment.
  • Tracks the models utilized by analysts to value/evaluate the company’s performance (i.e., trends, earnings per share, return on equity, etc.) and communicate this information to Senior Management and other key internal constituents.
  • Develops in-depth, comprehensive, understanding of the company’s worldwide operations, technology, financial performance, and strategies through ongoing interface and fact-finding visits with company executives and business unit management.

Qualifications

It is anticipated that this individual will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience of in-house corporate investor relations, finance, competitive intelligence, strategy, FP&A or similar positions for a publicly traded company or investment banking or equity research.  The individual must be a seasoned professional who has extensive experience in generating business results and leading teams with effective management skills. The job requires a corporate professional who also has entrepreneurial skills and looks to the future with optimism to envision what could be possible. Success in this role requires collaboration, communication, leadership, and vision. 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree; Finance or Accounting is ideal; MBA or equivalent a plus.

Additional required professional qualifications include:

  • Deep experience leading a nationally recognized investor relations function in a company of significant scale.
  • Superior financial and investment analysis capabilities, including clear and thorough understanding of financial modeling and valuation techniques used by financial and investment professionals.
  • Ability to function as an industry expert, constantly gathering and disseminating industry knowledge to develop new investor relations programs and initiatives that will promote the company’s leadership in the industry.
  • Proven track record of success building and leading high-performing investor relations and external communications programs in dynamic, high-growth environments with nimble resources.
  • Highly articulate, creative, and persuasive communicator; thought partner to the CEO, President, Chief Financial Officer and other key leaders (CPO, Head of Communications, General Counsel) who can continuously strive to improve investor relations and public communications.
  • Ability to understand, decipher and effectively position and communicate business and financial statement information.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships and credibility internally and externally with numerous constituencies including senior executives, investors, analysts and ratings agencies. 
  • Strategic business partner with demonstrated skills in collaborating effectively with senior leadership and all levels of an organization to produce outstanding outcomes.
  • Operate with an “enterprise view” – thinks and operates holistically and inclusively with all aspects of the business in mind.
  • Ability to continuously strive to improve the investor relations function; ensure best in class practices are in place.
