Position Overview:
Senior Director - Small Projects

This is a newly created position to establish and oversee small project processes at Sutter Health. Small projects are nominally below $10M each and include but are not limited to renovations, refreshes, acquisitions, infrastructure upgrades, medical equipment replacements, and tenant improvements (administrative, non-acute and acute).
Small projects account for a substantial proportion of Sutter's total capital spend each year and as such this position is of vital importance to the overall performance of the Sutter Health system. This position is accountable for providing the necessary support, oversight and technical tools to the Facility Management, Planning and Project Delivery teams so performance goals for small project delivery can be met.

The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of project delivery processes for small healthcare projects, including applicable regulations, contracting, vendor management, schedule estimation and cost estimation in the state of California. The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with what is necessary to deliver a high volume of small projects cost effectively at speed.

In the arena of small projects this position:
• Develops, enforces and trains on the processes to be followed.
• Develops KPI's and dashboards to show performance and improvements.
• Coaches and develops the Facility Management, Planning and Project Delivery teams in best practices.
• Over time will likely have direct reports that assist in providing the necessary support and oversight to this program.

EDUCATION:

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Verbal and written communication skills, solid interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities and work group facilitation skills. must demonstrate human resource management skills including the ability to attract, retain, motivate, develop and manage performance of staff
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills balancing attention to details with an ability to operate strategically
  • Ability to work with and influence senior leaders across more than one entity, market or service line. Ability to support the development of business cases and work on solutions to complex business challenges
  • Demonstration of leadership ability, including the management and delegation of appropriate tasks to technical and non-technical support staff
  • Consultative skills to gather needs and translate requests into potential solutions
  • Client relationship management skills to maintain positive relations between FPS and entity, market and system level senior leadership
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to support complex problem solving within capital project delivery in support of market, service line and system strategies. Has broad health care design and construction knowledge to support the financial and care delivery goals of Sutter Health
  • Understands the major contract forms in capital project delivery, has significant experience with integrated project delivery such as design-build contracts and Sutter's own integrated form of agreement
  • Must be familiar with health care construction building codes and regulations, space programming, cost estimating, project approval processes, and design and construction processes
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills in the delivery of health care facilities including medical office buildings, acute care general hospitals, outpatient surgery centers and psychiatric hospitals from programming through facility activation
  • Knowledge includes the understanding of the facility design on staff performance and efficiencies that support the business goals of the institution, as well as current trends in healthcare facility development and facility designs impacting patient care and operating efficiency
  • Must be familiar with the State of California building approval processes including Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), the State Fire Marshall and municipal discretionary approvals, as well as The Joint Commission regulation
  • Familiarity with computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, & Outlook.

Pay Range is $244,441.60 to $391,102.40 / annual salary

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health's comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
