Description

Central Garden & Pet is building a modern Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) to support analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision making across its brands and business units. The EDP Lead serves as the primary leader of the EDP team and the overall owner of the EDP. This role manages the team that designs, operates, and continuously improves the platform and ensures that it is secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with enterprise governance and business priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion the Enterprise Data Platform strategy and team to leadership and cross-functional steering committee; ensuring alignment with business priorities and objectives.
  • Partner with the EDP Architect to own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Enterprise Data Platform, including tools, technologies, reference architectures, and platform standards.
  • Lead, coordinate, and oversee EDP team activities, organizing meeting cadences, and promoting engagement across data platform stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Analytics team and business analytics users to ensure the platform supports enterprise analytics and AI across Central Garden & Pet.
  • Define, implement and govern development methodology including best practice dev ops standards and agile delivery models
  • Direct EDP projects and initiatives in alignment with the overarching data and governance strategy, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Manage EDP FinOps by budgeting, forecasting, and tracking platform spend; monitor total cost of ownership (TCO) and drive cost optimization in partnership with architect and engineers.
  • Define and monitor EDP performance metrics and service-level objectives, identifying and managing platform risks and driving continuous improvement.
  • Mentor & develop EDP team of architects and data engineers on business needs, industry standards, and best practices across EDP and associated technologies.
  • Collaborate with data governance, security, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure the EDP supports compliance, data protection, and enterprise data governance policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven leadership experience owning or managing a cloud-based data and analytics platform, including strategy, roadmap, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Strong understanding of modern data platform architectures (e.g., medallion architecture), enterprise data platforms (e.g., Databricks) and supporting technologies such as orchestration/CI/CD tooling and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead data teams and drive alignment among technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience managing external vendors, including offshore resources, to meet delivery objectives and service levels.
  • Experience with FinOps or cloud cost management, including budgeting, cost tracking, and optimization for data platforms.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to present complex platform topics to SteerCo, executives, and technical teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory, security, and governance standards and frameworks.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in data/analytics, data engineering, platform engineering, or related fields.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role (e.g., team lead, platform owner, manager) responsible for a data or analytics platform in a cloud environment.
  • Experience working with enterprise stakeholders (e.g., IT, security, finance, business leadership) to align platform capabilities with organizational goals.

POSITION INFORMATION
  • This position pays $225,000 - $250,000 per year depending on experience.
