Job Description

Lead a Network Engineering group responsible for data center, backbone/edge, and cloud networking. You develop strategies and plans that drive company-level reliability, security, performance, and cost outcomes. Own revenue/budget accountability across the group, partner with executive leadership on direction, and lead negotiations and briefings on issues of organizational significance. May have a mixed team of Network Engineers and Network Hardware Engineers, coordinating the physical network platform lifecycle (planning, sourcing, qualifying, sustaining routers/switches, optics/OLS, timing, cabling) to ensure interoperable, cost- and power-efficient components that enable reliable, secure, and compliant services at scale

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
L3/L4 Network Topologies and Overlays:
• Defines multi-year architecture for fabrics, backbone/edge, IPv6-first, failure domains, traffic engineering, and Anycast; approves enterprise standards.
• Sponsors cross-org modernization initiatives and major migrations; sets governance for MOP/rollback, verification, and change risk.
Cloud Networking Implementation and Operations:
• Establishes enterprise blueprints for VPC/VCN, transit/peering, PrivateLink/service endpoints, NAT, hybrid and inter-cloud; ensures consistency across regions and sovereign/regulated environments.
• Sets policy for L4/L7 platforms and service insertion with SLO/cost targets; aligns placement and capacity strategies with business growth.
Network Security Controls and Compliance Guardrails:
• Defines group-wide zero-trust strategy, segmentation, encryption, and DDoS/WAF posture; approves risk exceptions.
• Ensures global audit readiness; drives preventative controls and evidence automation in partnership with Security/GRC.
Automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code:
• Governs network-as-code strategy; funds and prioritizes IaC, GitOps, policy-as-code, and validation platforms.
• Sets target DORA and reliability metrics; ensures adoption across teams and holds leaders accountable.
Monitoring, Telemetry, and SLOs:
• Establishes SLI/SLO governance and observability strategy; integrates telemetry sources for reliability, capacity, and security analytics at scale.
• Leads capacity governance and long-horizon forecasting; directs POP/DC placement, interconnect/peering policy, and cost optimization.
Cross-Team Collaboration and Operations Excellence:
• Leads executive communications for high-severity incidents; ensures durable remediations and cross-org learning.
• Drives cross-organization programs and vendor strategy; negotiates major contracts and partnerships.
Documentation, Reviews, and Standards:
• Approves enterprise reference architectures, standards, and runbooks; ensures documentation quality and control evidence across regions.
• Chairs architecture and change councils; institutionalizes lessons learned and continuous improvement.

Collaboration & Partnership:
• Sets a strategic direction for collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of expectations and strategic objectives. Drives a culture of teamwork, empowering teams to build and maintain partnerships with business leaders, stakeholders, and/or customers to contribute to organizational success. Promotes a culture of transparency and inclusivity where all voices are valued and respected.
Problem Solving:
• Develops and implements strategies for specialized, advanced problem-solving efforts across the organization, serving as an escalation point for highly complex operational and/or technical issues. Oversees teams leveraging innovative techniques to address significant ambiguous issues, identify root causes, and prevent recurrence, reviewing solutions as needed.
Continuous Learning:
• Champions continuous learning to maintain cutting-edge skills and influence organizational best practices. Inspires teams to build and maintain expertise in relevant areas by proactively monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards to help position the organization as an industry leader. Contributes to the organization's strategy for learning and development, influencing leadership to foster learning opportunities for the team.
Continuous Improvement:
• Drives a culture of continuous improvement that sets a standard for efficient and effective processes, protocols, and workflows across the organization. Oversees work to implement large-scale approaches and methods for continued improvement, ensuring changes align with organizational goals. Sets the strategic direction, prioritizes, and approves the roadmap of improvement initiatives to maximize return on investments.
Performance and Development:
• Drives and ensures consistent application of performance management strategies, systems, processes, and guidelines across the organization. Creates an organizational culture of career development that encourages proactively identifying and pursuing career development opportunities, and guiding leaders to support their team's growth. Drives consistency in the application of talent development procedures and socializes performance expectations across the organization. Partners with HR and executive leadership to envision and execute a talent management strategy, balancing budget and talent resources.

Qualifications

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $193,600 to $414,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
