Full Job Description
Who we are looking for:

We're seeking an experienced Senior Designer and leader to play a key and highly valued role in the continued growth and success of our company.

Reporting to the President, the Senior Designer is responsible for developing compliant and aggressive design solutions in response to RFP requirements, including coordination of all disciplines. The Senior Designer is responsible for the management of the Junior Designers and the successful delivery of all day-to-day design requirements.

Location: Ideally, the successful candidate for this position would be based out of West Kelowna/Okanagan but we are open to discussing hybrid and/or remote work options.

As the Senior Designer, you will be responsible for the following:

Proposal Stage
  • Support estimating with engineering oversight, concept design, MEP and structural advice.
  • Provide assistance to the design team in preparation of bid solicitation, code compliancy, informational documents, and legal and front-end documents.

Design Development Stage
  • Work with Estimators to ensure the design and specification are aligned with the proposed spec and budget, and identify any changes to be reviewed by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure that all drawings meet project scope and specifications and that there are clearly defined construction details for each trade setting out project and building code requirements and materials to be used..
  • Review in detail and approve submittals, IFC drawings and specifications, material and equipment cut sheets, and colour board, for accuracy, completeness and alignment with the project scope.
  • Work with consultants to ensure the preparation of building permit packages in a timely manner.
  • Review packages issued by all consultants including architectural, structural, and engineering drawings and specifications, and identify potential errors, gaps or discrepancies with the project requirements or modular constructability. Incorporate the consultants' drawings into Freeport IFC drawing package.
  • Provide support to the order desk and procurement team in material take-off and placing purchase orders based on approved specifications.

Manufacturing and Construction Stage
  • Identify potential production problems, formulate recommendations and communicate effectively with all project team to ensure proactive resolutions.
  • Complete site visits as required during and after projects are complete to document and incorporate best practices into future designs.

Overall requirements
  • Participate in the advanced phase of BIM transition including: enhancing Revit libraries and standards, improving current template file, incorporating detail design of MEP, millwork, framing, and remaining discipline, generating schedules and BOM.
  • Provide training to the design team such as Revit, building code, design detail, etc.

You will bring:
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a similar Senior Designer role
  • Previous experience leading teams
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Office and design software
  • Knowledge of construction scopes and activities, scheduling, project management, and contract
  • Advanced understanding of multi-discipline practices required to execute small and large projects, including architectural, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing
  • Broad understanding with regards to contracts, contract language, bid documents, and bid
    development
  • Working knowledge of Building Codes (primarily BC, and Alberta) and their interpretations is required
  • Excellent knowledge of REVIT is required
  • A background in modular or prefabricated construction is a strong asset
  • A construction-related degree ( Engineering, Engineering Technologist, Architecture), is an asset

Compensation:

The typical hiring range for this position is $90,000 - 110,000 per year. The final agreed upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
