Senior Designer, DEWALT Cordless Power Tools

Who You Are 
You’re a strong problem solver who loves digging into the details to fully understand what is going on.  You have fixed a lot of problems, so you know how sort out what is meaningful and what is not to be as efficient as possible. You have run DOE’s and done the statistics to make well informed decisions.  You like getting your hands dirty and want to be the one disassembling a problem to find out what is broken and how to fix it. You also have:  
 

  • Two year degree in Engineering technology or applied science or CADD degree from trade school
  • 5+ years of experience designing subassemblies & complex parts using CATIA V5 or similar 3D CAD system. 
  • Experience in the use of 2D & 3D CATIA V5 or similar CAD system 
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Y14.5 2D drawing standard; knowledge of GD&T preferred 
  • Experience performing dimensional tolerance stack ups preferred 
  • Hands-on ability to build prototypes 
  • Experience with manufacturing assembly processes preferred 
  • Experience with various component manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, & metal stamping preferred 
  • Good organization and communication skills.  Ability to work with more than one engineer and handle multiple assignments concurrently. 

What You’ll Do 
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be part of our Global Tools & Storage team located in Towson, MD. Specifically, you’ll:

  • Execute product design of power tools as part of a product development team
  • Develops and refines concepts, prototype and/or specifications to solve given challenges
  • Creates parts of moderate complexity using 3D CAD system, and designs entire mechanical assembly for a product
  • Design subassemblies & complex parts using CATIA V5
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and how to apply to 2D Drawing
  • Design parts and subassemblies for various manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, stamping and machining
  • Setup BoM structure and maintain documentation in PLM system through entire product life cycle
  • Understand and be able to apply simple calculations (Stackup analysis, Spring Design, Press fits…).
  • Effectively maintains appropriate documentation for work performed
  • Capture and analyze data (current, voltage, speed, etc)
  • Communicate clearly to team members technical concepts and ideas
  • Gathers and analyzes data to identify and solve complex problems that arise with little or no precedent
  • Work effectively with engineering team to achieve effective design solutions
  • Use manufacturing knowledge & experience to guide product & tooling design 
  • Specifies 3D geometry, 2D technical drawings, and executes tolerance stack-ups 
  • Ability to construct prototypes, perform teardowns of competitive designs, and perform basic experiments to improve design output 
  • Coordinate with vendors the design release for tooling 

The Salary range for this position is $63,700.00 - $102,600.00
  • This is the lowest to highest annual full-time salary range we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The salary offered within the range may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and in compliance with local wage requirements. Please note that salary is only one component of total rewards at Stanley Black & Decker. ​
