The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking Senior Designer - Electrical to join our Engineering and Design division in Spokane, WA. Your passion, experience and endless curiosity are the missing piece in our drive for transformative change. In this role you would be leading the engineering of spaces and built environments to enable our area's dedicated life sciences community.

Join our multi-disciplinary engineering and design team and help shatter the status quo by updating our built environment to new levels of performance.

Design & Delivery:
  • Decarbonization and electrification of the built environment
  • Design of life science facilities and other critical environments.
  • Optimized design across heating, ventilation, and other building systems
  • Indoor environment and air quality

  • High-performance retrofits

Department Management:
  • Managing the sales, design, preconstruction, and construction support process for a design-build project while balancing building owner satisfaction.
  • Exercising global decision making by considering other departments within the company, such as project management, sales and estimating, accounting, purchasing, etc.
  • Coordinating with construction managers and sales leads throughout the life of the project.
  • Supervising, mentoring, training, and evaluating members of the design and engineering team.
  • Determining staffing needs to meet design schedules.

Engineering and Design:
  • Taking control and ownership of design, equipment selection, assessment of owner needs and initiating the development of an overall design plan.
  • Serving as a stamping engineer for complex mechanical and energy system designs.
  • Brainstorming to shake the status quo, challenge concepts and develop innovative design approaches.
  • Designing and proposing recommendations to optimize energy efficiency.
  • Coordinating with design teams on structural architectural, civil, electrical and energy.
  • Preparing design budget proposals for a variety of project types that appropriately reflect the effort required on any given project.

Client Relations:
  • Attending early meetings with owners/developers/general contractors.
  • Establishing a line of communication with customers and upper management.
  • Enhancing department and organizational reputations by participating in professional groups critical to our business lines.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in mechanical design, engineering or related field required with a focus on high-performance buildings.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • P.E. registration is required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit required.
  • Working knowledge of energy model results analysis required.
  • Working knowledge of total cost of ownership and or life cycle cost analysis required.
  • Experience in managing a design team is preferred.
  • Demonstrated public speaking experience preferred.
  • LEED AP preferred.

The pay range for this position is $111,420 - $187,000 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
