Sub-Category: Engineering

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Posting Start Date: 7/9/26

About the Role

We are looking for Senior Design Engineering Managers to join our Aortic and Peripheral Design Engineering teams. In each of these roles, you will lead and coordinate design engineering efforts across multiple programs, partnering with technical and cross-functional stakeholders to both support R&D and sustain commercial products. You will play a key role in solving complex design challenges, advancing robust and scalable design practices, and shaping high-quality design outputs across the product lifecycle. This is an opportunity to lead and develop talented engineers, and influence how design excellence is delivered in a growing medical device portfolio.

We will be conducting a combined interview process for Aortic and Peripheral Business groups and candidates will be considered for both.

These positions will be located at our facilities in Phoenix or Flagstaff, Arizona, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and allocate design engineering resources across multiple projects, balance priorities, constraints, and business needs, including headcount and budget forecasting to support capacity planning and escalation of gaps
  • Provide people leadership, performance management, and professional development to design engineers and engineering technicians
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performing team culture that promotes knowledge sharing, peer coaching, accountability, and equitable growth
  • Establish clear expectations of equitable and inclusive behaviors from Associates and act immediately to appropriately address negatively impactful or unfair behavior
  • Serve as a senior technical reviewer and mentor, and guide the planning, execution, and documentation to meet technical and quality expectations
  • Ensure design outputs (e.g., CAD models, drawings, specifications) are complete, technically sound, and supported by clear evidence (e.g., tolerance analyses, test result conclusions, etc.)
  • Drive compliance with quality system requirements while balancing customer needs, fitness for use, manufacturability, and time to market considerations
  • Lead and support structured problem-solving efforts for complex and ambiguous design challenges
  • Develop and sustain technical capability within the team, including standards knowledge (e.g., ASTM, ISO), core design engineering skills (e.g., CAD, GD&T, FEA), and certification pathways, and continuous improvement of design practices, processes, and deliverables
  • Translate business objectives into focused improvement or capability-building initiatives, aligning engineers, resources, and investments to priority work

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 6 years of design engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment with clear understanding of equitable practices
  • Demonstrated experience in directing the work of independent professionals, including forecasting, prioritizing, and identifying resource needs effectively across multiple projects
  • Demonstrated experience driving functional excellence initiatives that have influenced an organization, such as improving design practices, documentation quality, problem-solving rigor, or technical capability across a team or function
  • Experience with data-driven decision making and structured problem-solving techniques to determine root cause and identify countermeasures
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for influencing engineers, leaders, and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in design engineering fundamentals, including material applications, mechanical design analysis, GD&T, 3D CAD modeling, drawing and specification creation within a quality system, design of experiments, tolerance analysis, compliance to standards (e.g., ISO), etc
  • Demonstrated ability to create, contribute to, or influence practical design and design documentation throughout the product development lifecycle, from early concept development through to commercial launch
  • Proven ability to develop others, including coaching engineers across a range of experience levels, while fostering a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and collaboration
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in medical device design or highly regulated industries
  • Advanced knowledge of medical device design, including manufacturability, tolerance allocation, supplier variability, and applicable ASTM/ISO standards, with the ability to guide teams in delivering robust, scalable, production-ready designs
