Full Job Description
The Sr. Database Administrator is directly responsible for integrity and security of data for our clients. Ensuring databases are running at their peak performance allows our clients to have the most up to date information when they need it, where they need it, in order to make the most accurate decisions possible. Communicating with the client when there is an issue is the highest priority, so the client knows when their data might not be at it's best. Your ability to work closely with the team will allow us to keep each other on the same page and to motivate each other to continue to improve. The ability to work without supervision will ensure we maintain our high-quality service to the clients while allowing the team their turn to train and improve the team as a whole.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Associate Director of Database, you will:

Deliver Excellent Customer Service

  • Addressing automated alerts, failures, incidents and client requests as they come in
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently to clients
  • Document and detail the work, performed in tasks

Be an individual contributor in the DBA team

  • Actively work to improve the service by automation and identifying ways to improve upon our processes
  • Support your teammates in achieving team goals
  • Consistently work to improve your knowledge of Data technologies

Advanced DB Work

  • Expert understanding of SQL Server Internals
  • Expert in Installing, Configuring, patching and migrating Microsoft SQL Server instances.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, troubleshooting and fixing all available HA/DR topologies in SQL Server including Log shipping, Replication, AlwaysOn availability groups and failover clustering
  • Facilitate brainstorming meetings with clients to review, analyze, and assess business systems and needs
  • Expert in handling database backup and recovery, database access security and integrity, physical data storage design, and data storage administration.
  • Expert in Database security and auditing.
  • Create, change, and improve SQL Server Agent tasks and maintenance plans
  • Expert in monitoring SQL Server maintenance tasks, troubleshoot failed processes, and address issues as soon as possible
  • Hands-on experience writing and optimizing TSQL
  • Expert in handling databases which participate in both replication and always on together.
  • Expert in creating reports, monitoring, and alerts to better support our clients
  • Expert in troubleshooting and resolving server, DB and query performance issues, application sluggishness
  • Expert in understanding and fixing anti-best practices in DB design.
  • Expert in handling VLDBs
  • Expert in Database Partitioning, Data Compression
  • Expert in implementing Resource Governor
  • Expert in implementing, troubleshooting and fixing CDC
  • Expert in implementing, troubleshooting and fixing Distributed Availability Groups

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess:

  • 8+ years of MS SQL Server experience
  • Good to have PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Azure SQL DB, AWS RDS administration experience
  • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, troubleshooting and fixing various HA/DR topologies with special focus on Transactional Replication and Alwayson Availability groups.
  • Extensive experience in handling server, DB and query performance issues.
  • Hands-on experience writing and optimizing TSQL
  • Related formal database education or DBA certification
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of database platforms in an enterprise infrastructure with the ability to utilize database administration tools

The strongest candidates will also have:

  • Industry certifications (MCSA, MCSE, DP-300)
  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines and handle multiple tasks
  • Familiar with Change Management and ITIL processes
