Description

Reporting to the Director, System Operations, the Senior Database Administrator owns the reliability, security, performance, and recoverability of the company's mission-critical database platforms. This role leads database installation, upgrades, patching, configuration standards, monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning, and serves as an escalation point for complex incidents. The position partners with application and infrastructure owners to design and implement new systems and improvements, ensuring backup/recovery and disaster recovery readiness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and promote standards for databases and database servers, including software versions, backup configurations, and security configurations.
  • Manage events, incidents, and problem management processes for database-related issues.
  • Perform capacity management for database servers and tuning for all databases in the environment.
  • Proactively maintain the database environment to ensure proper operation, security, and backup/restore integrity.
  • Liaison between application owners and the infrastructure group for database-dependent applications.
  • Implement monitoring of database environments to ensure availability, security, and performance within acceptable standards.
  • Support migrations to cloud-based data platforms.
  • Subject matter expert for database environment architecture and design.
  • Stay current with database technologies and trends.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with data modeling, schema design, and normalization
  • Experience delivering services via outsourced partners.
  • Demonstrated experience with mission-critical SQL databases.
  • Conceptual knowledge of Oracle databases
  • Certification in one or more of the following: Oracle, SQL, Unidata.
  • Demonstrated experience with capacity management and tuning large-scale mission-critical databases.
  • Experience with enterprise-class Unix, Linux, and Windows platforms.
  • Experience with Azure and/or other Hyperscalers.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute.
  • 5+ years of database administration experience required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to routinely lift/move objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Domestic travel up to 5% annually

POSITION INFORMATION

  • This position pays $140,000-$170,000 per year depending on experience and location
