The Job/What You’ll Do:

AssetMark is seeking a Senior Data Steward to lead and advance data governance and stewardship initiatives across the organization. In this hands-on role, you will establish deep expertise in specific data domains, facilitate data governance council meetings, and develop standard operating procedures to ensure consistent stewardship. You will partner with business, product, and engineering stakeholders to implement data quality controls, maintain comprehensive documentation, and drive process improvements that enhance data stewardship efficiency.

We can only consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Phoenix, AZ or Charlotte, NC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain expertise in assigned data domains, acting as a subject matter expert for data governance and stewardship.
  • Facilitate data governance council meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement data standards and policies.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for data stewardship, ensuring consistency and compliance.
  • Implement and monitor data quality controls, establish automated processes, and maintain metadata repositories.
  • Lead data quality improvement initiatives, achieving measurable improvements in data integrity and usability.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior stewards and business users, developing best practices and supporting user adoption.
  • Manage domain-specific governance projects, coordinate with stakeholders, and implement process improvements.
  • Partner with data owners and business stakeholders to resolve complex data quality issues and translate governance requirements into business-friendly processes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and metadata management.
  • Experience implementing automated data quality controls and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, with the ability to guide teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to translate technical governance requirements into practical business processes.
  • Proficiency with data governance tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SQL for complex data querying.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Data Science, Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in data stewardship, data governance, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading data governance initiatives and managing cross-functional projects.
  • 3+ years of relevant business experience working in the financial services industry is a plus.

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $105,000-$125,000.

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
