About the Role

Hinge is seeking a versatile Data Scientist to join our Recommendations team, working at the heart of the algorithms that shape who millions of people see, every day.

You'll partner closely with Product Managers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Engineering, and User Research, to evaluate and improve our models, using a mix of rigorous experimentation and causal analysis, to uncover insights, design innovative solutions, and influence strategic decisions. Your work will directly shape whether the recommendations we show lead to real, meaningful connections, informing not just what we build, but how we know it's working.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Product Managers, ML engineers, Data Scientists, Engineering, and User Research to develop and iterate on product features and strategy
  • Translate product objectives to data science problems and vice versa
  • Apply statistical inference to draw rigorous conclusions from data, especially through designing and analyzing A/B tests and working on insights that drive product strategy
  • Dig into user behavior through exploratory analysis to surface insights product teams wouldn't otherwise see
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to evaluate, improve, and monitor production models

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as data scientist, ideally at a consumer-facing (D2C) company
  • Experience designing and analyzing experiments
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and Python (R is acceptable but we use Python at Hinge)
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, with a conceptual understanding of ML and curiosity to keep learning
  • Clear communication skills
  • Comfortable balancing rigor with practicality
  • Excellent collaboration skills and a track record of cross-functional influence
  • Deep sense of intellectual curiosity!
