Full Job Description
What this job involves

As a Senior Data Engineer on the Data Consumption team, you will own the design and delivery of data contracts and Delta Sharing across JLL's Enterprise Data Platform, giving downstream teams governed, self-service access to trusted data. This role is for an experienced engineer who has delivered at least one large or complex data platform initiative and is ready to lead a foundational capability that other data engineers and business teams will build on.

What you'll get to do

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will have ownership over the data contract framework and Delta Sharing implementation that underpins data consumption across JLL. Your customers are the analytics, reporting, and product teams across every JLL business line who depend on this platform for governed access to trusted data, as well as the data engineers who will follow the standards you set. Your mission is to make data consumption safe, self-service, and consistent - replacing ad-hoc access and one-off pipelines with a governed, contract-first sharing model. This is an opportunity to shape a capability that becomes the standard way every domain at JLL shares and consumes data.

Key responsibilities

Data Contract Design & Implementation: Lead the design and rollout of data contracts that define schema, quality, and ownership expectations between data producers and consumers across the platform.

Delta Sharing Architecture & Delivery: Own the end-to-end build of Delta Sharing capabilities, enabling secure, governed, cross-team and cross-organization data access without physical data duplication.

Data Governance & Quality Enforcement: Build automated validation and quality checks that enforce contract compliance at ingestion and consumption points, and drive adoption of these standards across engineering teams.

Data Modeling & Schema Design: Design shared, versioned data models and access patterns that balance domain-specific needs with platform-wide consistency.

Platform Integration: Integrate data contract and sharing capabilities into JLL's broader Enterprise Data Platform, working within existing ingestion, storage, and API frameworks.

API & Service Design: Design and build the services and interfaces that let downstream teams discover, request, and consume shared datasets independently.

Mentorship & Best Practices: Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers on data contract and sharing patterns, and act as the initial subject matter expert for the data consumption team.

Automated Testing & Reliability: Build complex automated test suites that validate contract enforcement, data lineage, and sharing reliability at scale.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data producers, platform architects, and business stakeholders to translate consumption needs into contract and sharing requirements.

Documentation & Enablement: Produce clear technical documentation and onboarding materials so other teams can adopt data contracts and Delta Sharing with minimal support.

Who you are

You are a seasoned data engineer who challenges the status quo rather than accepting ad-hoc, undocumented data access as good enough. You have led at least one large or complex data delivery before, and you're energized by taking a fuzzy, cross-team problem - like how dozens of teams should safely consume shared data - and turning it into a concrete, well-tested platform capability. You mentor the engineers around you as naturally as you write code, and you move fluidly between deep technical design work and the stakeholder conversations needed to get a new standard adopted.

Qualifications and skills

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of data engineering experience, including at least one large-scale or complex implementation delivered end-to-end.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced Python and SQL, with hands-on experience designing and optimizing data pipelines in a cloud environment (Azure preferred).
  • Direct experience with data contracts, schema governance, or data quality enforcement in a production data platform.
  • Experience with Delta Lake, Delta Sharing, or comparable data-sharing / lakehouse technologies.
  • Strong PySpark experience, including performance optimization and troubleshooting via Spark UI.
  • Experience designing and building API services for data access or integration.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and acting as a technical point of contact within a team.
  • Comfort working across scrum teams and collaborating with both engineering and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, or similar data catalog and governance tooling.
  • Familiarity with data mesh principles and federated data ownership models.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Event Hubs, or other Azure-native data integration services.
  • Background in commercial real estate, enterprise data platforms, or B2B SaaS data products.
  • Experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows.

Key attributes
  • Problem-Solving Skills: You break down ambiguous, cross-team data problems into concrete, deliverable solutions.
  • Ownership & Drive: You take a project from design through adoption without needing to be told what's next.
  • Collaboration: You work naturally across engineering and business stakeholders to align on shared standards.
  • Communication: You explain complex data architecture decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adaptability & Speed: You adjust designs quickly as new consumption needs and platform constraints emerge.
