POSITION SUMMARYWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer - MongoDB to design and optimize scalable, high-performance data platforms supporting enterprise healthcare applications. This role focuses on MongoDB-based architectures, real-time data streaming, and cloud-native data engineering, enabling mission-critical systems such as Member Cache, Plan Cache, and analytics platforms.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in MongoDB Atlas, event-driven architectures, and large-scale distributed data systems, along with hands-on experience building production-grade data pipelines.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Design and maintain MongoDB data models, collections, and indexing strategies for high-volume transactional and analytical systems
- Build and optimize real-time data pipelines using Kafka, CDC, and streaming frameworks
- Architect and manage MongoDB Atlas clusters (replication, sharding, high availability)
- Develop and manage ETL/ELT pipelines integrating structured and unstructured data sources
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance, including PII/PHI handling and encryption standards
- Optimize query performance and database tuning
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for data platforms
- Support production environments, including incident resolution and capacity planning
- Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and product teams to deliver end-to-end data solutions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or distributed data systems
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with MongoDB (MongoDB Atlas preferred)
- 4+ years of experience in NoSQL data modeling, indexing, and aggregation pipelines
- 4+ years of experience designing MongoDB Atlas architectures (replication, sharding, high availability)
- 3+ years of experience with event-driven architecture and streaming (Kafka, CDC)
- 3+ years of experience building ETL/ELT and real-time data pipelines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience with MongoDB Change Streams, Atlas Data Streaming, and Vector Search
- Experience integrating MongoDB with Kafka ecosystems (Kafka Connect, Streams)
- Exposure to AI/ML pipelines or real-time analytics platforms
- Experience in healthcare domain or CVS Health environments
- Familiarity with GCP tools (GKE, Dataflow, BigQuery) or equivalent
- Proficiency in Python or Java, including microservices development
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance (PII/PHI, HIPAA, encryption)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
EDUCATIONBachelor's degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience).

Pay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:
$92,700.00 - $185,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
