Full Job Description
The Senior Counsel will serve as a strategic legal partner to senior business leaders, providing guidance on commercial, marketing, consumer engagement, regulatory, and operational matters. The successful candidate will combine strong legal judgment with business acumen to manage risk, support innovation, and enable growth in a highly regulated environment.

Your Day to Day

Commercialization & Risk Management
  • Lead legal strategy supporting the commercialization of smoke-free and innovative products.
  • Advise on product launches, market entry, governance, and risk management frameworks.
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, Consumer Experience, Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, and Communications teams.
  • Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, compliance, and reputational risks.

Marketing, Consumer Engagement & Compliance
  • Provide legal guidance on advertising, promotions, consumer communications, partnerships, loyalty programs, CRM initiatives, websites, and digital engagement.
  • Develop practical guardrails that enable compliant and innovative consumer engagement.
  • Advise on laws impacting marketing, distribution, sales, and consumer interactions.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assess business impact.

Commercial Transactions
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on commercial agreements, including marketing, agency, vendor, and strategic partnership contracts.
  • Identify legal and commercial risks and develop solutions aligned with business objectives.

Leadership
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to attorneys, paralegals, and legal professionals.
  • Support department priorities and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to deliver proactive legal support.

Who We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 10+ years of legal experience supporting commercial business functions.
  • Experience advising on marketing, advertising, consumer engagement, regulatory, digital, and commercial contracting matters.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively with a high degree of initiative, accountability, and urgency, driving legal and business objectives to successful outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting product launches and commercialization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with privacy, CRM, e-commerce, digital engagement, and consumer data matters.
  • Experience in multinational or matrixed organizations.

Annual Base Salary Range: $242,000 - $302,500
