    • Manage patent and trademark drafting/prosecution in coordination with external counsel.
    • Maintain the company's trade-secret register and oversee the Open Source Software (OSS) Policy.
    • Evaluate the patent portfolio to unlock commercial opportunities and execute enforcement strategies against infringing competitors.
  • Product & Privacy Advisory : Embed legal, privacy, and regulatory best practices into the core product lifecycle.
    • Operationalize privacy-by-design and data governance across advanced intersection hardware and the cloud platform (Miovision One).
    • Advise on risks and regulatory requirements surrounding AI, public traffic video capture, video obfuscation/blurring techniques, and broader data governance.
  • Corporate Governance & Alignment: Ensure business-wide adherence to core operational, risk, and compliance frameworks.
    • Maintain cross-functional alignment with the AI Governance Policy, Open Source Software Policy, Regulatory Framework, and Enterprise Risk Management Program.
  • Business Training & Education: Design and deliver targeted training for the CTO organization covering IP protection, privacy compliance, and emerging legal developments.

Ideal Profile:
  • Modern IP and Tech Law Expertise: 10+ years of senior legal experience navigating complex IP, AI, public video capture, and data privacy frameworks in top-tier private practice or high-growth tech environments.
  • Domain Experience: Background working with hardware, software, AI, or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies is a strong asset.
  • IP Strategy and Portfolio Management: Deep experience in patent capture, prosecution, trade secret management, and portfolio monetization or enforcement.
  • Global Privacy Compliance: Strong command of PIPEDA, CCPA, GDPR, and municipal public-sector data privacy regulations.
  • External Counsel Management: Proven track record of managing external counsel efficiently to optimize budget and legal outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communicator who builds trust across engineering, product, and executive leadership teams.
  • Strategic Ownership: Proactive self-starter with high ethical standards and a decisive, results-driven approach to problem-solving.
  • Credentials: Holds an undergraduate law degree from an accredited institution and an active member in good standing with any Canadian provincial or US state bar.
