Job Summary: 

Cajun Industries, LLC (“Cajun”) is seeking an experienced Construction Law attorney to join our team as Senior Counsel. This role provides support across the Cajun organization on a wide variety of matters.  He/she may potentially be Cajun’s internal legal expert in one or more areas, and he/she drafts and negotiates contracts impacting various legal aspects of Cajun’s construction and engineering businesses. May advise Cajun’s internal legal and support teams on a wide variety of issues including various contracts, safety, health, and environmental, leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, employment and HR, insurance, litigation and dispute resolution, and related matters, along with other complex legal matters. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice to ensure the company operates within the law, and champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, safety, employee development, customer service, and operational excellence.    
  • Oversee all legal matters of one or more business units, serving as the lead legal representative for the business unit 
  • Draft and review various commercial and construction related agreements working with business clients to negotiate key terms and conditions.    
  • Provides real-time, practical legal advice appropriate for risk exposure, risk avoidance, and dispute avoidance.   
  • Engage the proper mix of internal and external resources to manage appropriate aspects of the legal work.  This includes identifying strategies, articulating the scope of work, controlling costs, managing outside counsel and meeting deadlines 
  • Maintain organized records of all legal documents and proceedings. 
  • Support preconstruction functions by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating construction-related contracts. 
  • Manage litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes, including discovery support. 
  • Support corporate projects and initiatives as requested, including strategic transaction opportunities. 
  • Evaluate and manage outside counsel as needed.

  • Sound judgment and the ability to evaluate options fairly. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent project management skills, including effectively multitask, strong analytical skills, and customer service focus. 
  • Broad legal subject matter expertise and strong business acumen. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to reduce complex legal issues into manageable concepts for practical business assessments. 
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, manage competing priorities and deadlines, exercise sound judgment, think creatively, and take ownership of issues and matters through their successful conclusion. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (in technical field a plus), Juris Doctorate, and a state bar admission, preferably Texas or Louisiana, or licensed in at least one jurisdiction that allows for in-house registration with the Louisiana Bar, required. 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of direct experience in the practice of Construction Law or a related field. 
  • Prior in-house experience is a plus.
