Role Overview:

Chaos Inc is growing quickly and we're building a cost accounting team that can keep up with a fast moving, production driven environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands on setting, where processes are being built and refined, and where your work directly impacts how the company scales.

The Senior Cost Accountant I will be deeply involved in the day to day flow of inventory and manufacturing transactions, ensuring accuracy in a high volume, highly manual environment while helping establish the foundation for more efficient and scalable operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Own and execute high-volume cost accounting transactions, including inventory movements, production entries, and cost-related journal entries
  • Support month-end close, including inventory reconciliations, subledger to GL reconciliation, and manufacturing related accruals
  • Execute and review cost accounting transactions in a high volume, manual environment
  • Investigate manufacturing variances and partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and improve accuracy
  • Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate and reliable product costing
  • Analyze and resolve manufacturing variances (material usage, purchase price, production inefficiencies)
  • Partner closely with Operations, Production, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams to ensure accurate inventory flow and resolve issues quickly
  • Support cycle counts and physical inventory, including investigation and resolution of variances
  • Assist with audit readiness, ensuring documentation and processes are well supported
  • Help build and improve processes in a manual environment, with a focus on scalability and efficiency
  • Gross margin analysis and cost driver insights
  • Flux analysis across inventory, COGS, and production activity
  • Investigating and resolving cost fluctuations, with visibility to leadership


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in cost or inventory accounting within manufacturing and R&D environment
  • Strong understanding of inventory flow and transactional accounting
  • Experience working in manual or high volume environments
  • Ability to understand the production environment and the associated financial processes
  • Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations process and manufacturing principles
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in defense and/or aerospace manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting inventory audits and controls
  • Exposure to ERP systems and process improvement initiatives

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000

The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits.
