Working actively with executive and senior leadership teams, our Legal Department assists in achieving the company's goals by not only partnering with the business but also managing corporate liability and compliance. Role Description

As Senior Corporate Counsel, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor to Safety National's business and executive leadership, helping guide strategic business initiatives while managing complex legal matters across the organization. In this role, you will primarily provide legal guidance related to assumed and ceded reinsurance contracts, coverages, and legal issues by leveraging demonstrated ability for sound business judgment while supporting a growing reinsurance organization. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing all contracts for new and renewal reinsurance transactions, including multiple iterations from initial draft to firm order terms/final contract, and ensuring consistency across clauses and contracts
  • Advising underwriters, claims professionals and other decision makers on material terms of each reinsurance agreement, including coverage, data and other material provisions
  • Reviewing all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), addenda and endorsements for reinsurance and loss portfolio transfer (LPT) business
  • Identifying confidentiality and privacy requirements, including GDPR, CCPA and other privacy-related laws and provisions, across all reinsurance agreements
  • Serving as legal resource to the LPT Department, and providing legal review of LPT transactional documents, as necessary

Qualifications

Education
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Current license to practice law in at least one U.S. state is required.
  • Ability to obtain Missouri Limited Admission as In-House Counsel, if applicable, is required.

Required Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of casualty and/or professional lines reinsurance contractual experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the reinsurance insurance industry and reinsurance operations
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal advice into practical business guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects while producing high-quality work independently.
  • Confidence partnering with executive leadership and external business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • Qualified candidates residing outside the St. Louis metropolitan area are eligible to work remotely or in one of our regional offices. For candidates who reside in the St. Louis metropolitan area, if hired you will be required to work a hybrid work schedule which includes a minimum of 3 days per week in our St. Louis Corporate Office, located at 1832 Schuetz Rd, Saint Louis, MO. All employees are required to sign a Remote Work Agreement and/or follow our Work From Home policy, which will be provided to all candidates selected to interview.

Safety National is committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-based compensation. In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target base salary range for this position is $133,000 to $172,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location.
