Senior Financial Controller

Position Summary

Summerhill Market is seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to lead our accounting and financial management functions across our retail and food production operations.

This senior leadership role is responsible for accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, internal controls, cash flow, inventory, and costing. The Financial Controller will work closely with Executive Leadership and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight, strengthen controls, and support continued business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead accounting operations, including month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, financial statements, AP, AR, banking, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and provide meaningful analysis to Executive Leadership.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning across the organization.
  • Analyze sales, gross margin, labour, operating expenses, EBITDA, cash flow, and profitability.
  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and reporting tools to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Partner with Retail, Commissary, Bakery, Purchasing, and Operations leaders to improve financial and operational performance.
  • Support our food production operations through analysis of ingredient costs, recipe/product costing, labour, yields, waste, packaging, inventory, and product profitability.
  • Analyze performance by store, department, production area, and product category.
  • Oversee inventory controls, valuation, shrink, cost of goods sold, and margin analysis.
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, working capital, and banking relationships.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, financial controls, and risk management processes.
  • Support business cases, capital investments, equipment purchases, new products, and operational initiatives with financial analysis.
  • Improve accounting, reporting, budgeting, and financial systems through automation and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Finance and Accounting team.
