WDP is hiring a Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer to join our Manassas, Virginia headquarters. This position requires a degreed Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in construction materials testing & inspection (CMTI) for various construction projects (ASCE Grade equivalent IV- V).
In addition to CMTI responsibilities, this role actively collaborates with the current Division Manager and Senior Staff in managerial, technical, and fiscal duties. The successful candidate will have excellent client relations to maintain and grow the current WDP clients and relationships, and the ability to procure new clients and projects and will participate in marketing and business development activities to expand WDP's work in the area. The ideal candidate will apply experience and knowledge of construction inspection and materials engineering practices, field and laboratory testing procedures, and industry standards to a wide variety of Special Inspection/Critical Structures projects in both the public and private sectors. Strong and demonstrated managerial and supervisory skills are required as this role offers opportunities to mentor and train field technicians and construction inspectors as well as laboratory materials testing technicians and Laboratory Manager in conjunction with WDP's Field Operations Manager.
The Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer will coordinate all field and laboratory activities to ensure compliance with current accepted standards, working closely with WDP's Field Operations Manager, Laboratory Manager, and Division Manager. The Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer will provide field work oversight and management of inspectors and technicians performing testing of construction materials and inspection of construction sites. The individual in this will routinely serve as the Special Inspections Engineer/Third-Party Inspections Engineer of Record. As such, the Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer shall be familiar with city/county agencies Special Inspection/Critical Structures program requirements within the Metro DC and Northern VA counties and cities areas.
Typical project assignments will include:
- Coordinating the field and laboratory inspection/technician staff for projects and scheduling work with Field Operations Manager;
- Overseeing and assisting/supporting the Field Operations Manager with the training, development, and mentorship of Engineer Technicians/Inspectors and the Laboratory Manager;
- Managing and supervising the testing and inspection of building construction components such as soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt, fireproofing, LGMF/CFMF, and structural steel to include sitework elements such as utilities, site walls, SWM/BMP facilities and pavements;
- Reviewing daily inspection and materials testing reports prepared by inspectors and technicians;
- Preparing periodic construction quality reports to document if projects are being built per approved plans and specifications, if required by clients or project specs.
- Preparing and distributing deficiency lists/non-compliant lists if projects have construction items deviating from approved plans and specifications.
- Reviewing and analyzing reports, maps, drawings, specifications, and other project related data necessary for construction inspection and materials testing services;
- Coordinating inspection and testing services with clients, architects and engineers, and contractors as well as WDP staff.
- Evaluating and applying standard engineering methods and procedures during the performance of CMTI services.
- Interaction with existing and new clients for business development through appropriate scope of services discussions and proposal preparation.

Requirements
- Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in construction materials testing & inspection (CMTI) for various construction projects (ASCE Grade equivalent E-IV/E-V).
- BS/MS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Licenses in other mid-Atlantic/Metro DC states may be required
- Motivating leadership and mentoring ability in a team environment with very strong interpersonal and relationship skills
- Complete tasks/projects independently depending on the job assignment
- Ability to work in the field and travel depending on job assignment and workload
- Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
