Stantec is seeking Senior Construction Inspectors (or Transportation Engineering Technicians of varying levels) to be a part of our growing Transportation team in Virginia or Maryland. Your Opportunity
  • Your role is to work with general supervision and direction on average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Construction Manager.
  • You will be responsible for daily inspection efforts on multiple complex large, and/or diverse projects to ensure contractor's operations comply with project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • You will prepare sketches and assemble data for Responsible Charge Engineer to utilize when making changes to the project.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • As a representative of the client, you will ensure quality control and contractor compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Coordinate work and inspections with contractor's representative, client personnel and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor contractor's operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications.
  • Review and monitor contractors' plan of operation; and advise contractor of violations and recommend adjustments to operations.
  • Generate reports of conditions found during inspection activities, notifies Construction Management of significant problems, and completes documentation necessary to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities.
  • Prepare and review reports for preparation of entries into Site Manager / Project Wise and is able to properly document materials as well as other test reports for materials, pay quantity records, progress schedules and monthly estimates.
  • Manage deadlines, prioritizes assignments, and prepares final documentation for closeout process.
  • Inspect installation of construction features, measures dimensions, and calculates quantities.
  • Examine construction materials, checking to see if they meet specifications.
  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
  • Tabulate monthly quantities for use in determining contractors' monthly payment estimates.
  • Train and/or mentor less experienced staff in company procedures, standards, and software.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Aid in the development of work orders, investigations, and analysis of Notices of Intent
  • Evaluate and monitor progress schedules and performs work order analysis.
  • Verify lines, grades dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
  • Independently coordinates and directs all phases of construction inspection of projects, which are typically complicated by extensive traffic control, sensitive to the public or environmentally challenging, or require significant project coordination with property owners, utility companies, or local/federal government representatives.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in VDOT procedures and policies.
  • Basic skills in math, drafting, and science.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Proficient in Site Manager, Project Wise, and project material certifications.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team.
  • Must have good driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Effectively communicates project issues with contractor, project team and clients.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge roadway, structure and bridge construction/maintenance/repair/rehabilitation methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
  • Must possess the following certifications:
  • VDOT Soils and Aggregate
  • VDOT Asphalt Field Levels I and II
  • VDOT Slurry Seal
  • VDOT Surface Treatment
  • Nuclear Density Safety
  • 10 Hour Safety (OSHA)
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI)
  • VA DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Level
  • VA DEQ Stormwater Management Inspector Level
  • VDOT Pavement Markings
  • VDOT Guardrail Installation (GRIT)
  • VDOT Flagger Certification
  • VDOT Work Zone Traffic Control - Intermediate Level

Education and Experience
  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
  • Minimum of 7 or more years of experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record is required.

Position will primarily require field work which may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
