Full Job Description
Opportunity

Millennium Insurance is looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to work on complex commercial accounts, collaborate with experienced industry professionals, and help shape a profitable and expanding portfolio.

As a locally owned Alberta insurer, we combine the stability of an established organization with the agility to make decisions quickly. You'll have the chance to develop your technical expertise, and build relationships across both broker and direct channels.

Who you are

  • An experienced underwriter: you have 4 or more years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience across a range of risks, ideally with exposure to business written across Canada. Experience underwriting large realty portfolios, builders' risk projects, manufacturing operations, and hospitality risks is considered an asset. Post-secondary education and/or a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation are considered assets. If you do not currently possess a Level 1 or 2 General Insurance License, you are willing to obtain such a license, at Millennium's expense within 90 days.
  • A technician: you possess strong market and technical wisdom and can demonstrate confidence in structuring complex property and casualty insurance policies, including those which might involve primary and excess layers, facultative reinsurance, and/or exposure to natural catastrophes.
  • A broker partner: you can bring established broker relationships to the team and are comfortable developing new partnership opportunities across various lines of business and risk segments.
  • A collaborator: you can actively collaborate with internal stakeholders across multiple teams, including actuarial services, claims, and accounting, to make impactful decisions regarding processes, pricing, and overall portfolio performance.
  • A mentor: you can provide mentorship to less experienced staff and inspire a culture conducive to high-performance and personal and professional growth.

How you will succeed

Within your first six months, you will be recognized as a trusted underwriting partner who brings sound judgment to complex risks, delivers exceptional service to brokers and clients, and contributes meaningfully to the profitable growth of Millennium's commercial portfolio.

Success in this role means you:

  • Apply strong technical expertise to assess, price, and structure complex commercial property and casualty risks in compliance with Millennium's risk appetite and current underwriting strategies.
  • Consistently deliver competitive service, including thoughtfully priced and structured commercial insurance policies.
  • Build confidence with brokers and clients through responsive, thoughtful underwriting decisions.
  • Collaborate effectively with claims and actuarial teams to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Contribute to portfolio performance and identify opportunities to enhance client experience or Millennium's market posture and penetration.
