Kleinfelder is currently looking to hire a Senior Coastal Engineer/Project Manager to join our rapidly growing Coastal Engineering Solutions Practice. The successful candidate will be a leader and proven project manager with a minimum of 10 years of coastal experience. The preferred locations are Portland, ME, Manchester, NH or Boston, MA. Other office locations, as well as flexible office schedules, will be considered for the right driven candidate. This role would help lead and support a wide variety of coastal work across Kleinfelder's East Division.

Candidates are expected to lead our coastal services growth in the region and be an expert in the following areas:

  • Natural Hazards and Coastal Risk
  • Coastal Hydrodynamics and Morphology
  • Coastal Zone Management, Environmental Restoration, and Enhancement
  • Climate Change, Resilience Planning, and Sea Level Rise Impacts
  • Coastal Engineering Design, including hard and soft shoreline design
  • Construction oversight of coastal type projects

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding coastal zone management, resilience planning, and related fields.
  • Provides a high-level project management and leadership overseeing on-going projects in New England and surrounding areas.
  • Leads business development opportunities and drives program growth in the region.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete complex projects located in coastal environments.
  • Provide team leadership at a program and project level and working with other staff to complete projects.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the coastal work in coastal/estuarine/marine related projects.
  • Works closely with the Resiliency Practice Lead and other East Division Leadership to increase marketing and growth in the New England and East Coast regions.
  • Prepares cost and project estimates, and schedules.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of final documents/reports.
  • Preparation of proposals and marketing efforts.
  • Provide construction management and administrative services.
  • Oversees and mentors' personnel involved in coastal investigations and planning work.
  • Coordinates work with other coastal professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
  • Communicates effectively and applies with a high level of understanding the coastal zone management practices.

Qualifications:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written report preparation.
  • Current registration as Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), or Science Professional.
  • Experience designing, permitting, and/or implementing living shorelines, salt marsh restoration, or other coastal nature-based solutions
  • Experience working with municipal sector and public agency clients, and/or regional utilities and service providers
  • Sustainability credentials and experience with resiliency program development and project implementation (e.g., WEDG, ENV SP, CC-P) is a plus
  • Past experience with FEMA, HUD, and NOAA grant programs, including Pre and Post-Disaster Hazard Mitigation and Recovery Grant Programs (e.g., FEMA BRIC, FMA, NOAA/NFWF Coastal Resilience programs, and FEMA National Flood Insurance Program is a plus
  • Demonstrated project experience through professional publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the Coastal Zone Management market and future trends to assist in expanding Kleinfelder's coastal services and capabilities.

Education And Experience:
  • Master of Science degree in Science or Engineering with 5 years of experience with the subject matter focus on one of the areas of expertise listed above. OR
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science or Engineering with 10 years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above.
