Job Description

Senior Communications Migration Lead (Voice / Messaging / Contact Center) To support migration of existing Microsoft customers off of sunsetting Engagement: Vendor-supplied contract consultant, full-time | Location: Remote, U.S. time zones | Reports to: ACS Migration Program Manager Role Summary Microsoft is moving enterprise customers off impacted Azure Communication Services (ACS) workloads - calling/video, call automation and recording, SMS, email, chat, advanced messaging (WhatsApp), and job router - onto Microsoft first-party (1P) destinations, or approved third-party (3P) platforms where 1P does not meet a customer's requirements. We need a senior, delivery-oriented migration lead: someone who advises customer architects, personally drives the critical-path migration and cutover work, coordinates customer teams, vendor engineers and Microsoft specialists, and owns a portfolio of named customers to completion. You lead the work with specialist support - you are not expected to be the sole engineer on every workload. This is a hands-on delivery role, not a strategy, architecture-review, or governance role. Outcomes and Responsibilities
  • Own a portfolio of assigned ACS customers end to end: assessment, target-state design, migration plan, cutover, and post-cutover stabilization.
  • Recommend destinations 1P-first; propose an approved 3P platform only with a documented 1P capability gap, and justify it to Microsoft.
  • Personally drive critical-path work: integration design, cutover runbooks, number/routing and identity changes, dry runs, rollback plans, and go-live command.
  • Advise customer architects and engineering leads; convert ACS dependencies into a concrete, dated migration plan.
  • Coordinate customer, vendor, and Microsoft specialists; remove blockers rather than report them.
  • Track and report per-customer ACS usage drawdown against baseline until residual usage hits zero or the approved threshold.
  • Turn each migration into reusable runbooks and patterns so subsequent customers move faster. Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years delivering enterprise communications projects, including 3+ years leading customer-facing platform migrations or cutovers.
  • Deep hands-on migration experience in one or more of: voice/telephony (SIP, PSTN, SBC/carrier), messaging (SMS/RCS/WhatsApp/email delivery), CPaaS (e.g., Twilio, Vonage, Sinch, Bandwidth, Infobip), or contact center (e.g., Genesys, NICE, Amazon Connect, Five9, Teams/Dynamics-based). Depth in one area beats shallow coverage of all.
  • Personally planned and executed at least two production cutovers of a live communications workload carrying real users or traffic.
  • Able to read and modify integration code (C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Python), work with SDKs, REST APIs and webhooks, and debug live call/message flows from logs and telemetry.
  • Working knowledge of Azure as it applies to communications workloads (identity, networking, eventing, monitoring).
  • Strong customer-facing communication: can run a cutover bridge and an executive steering call in the same week.
  • U.S. business hours, occasional off-hours cutover windows, limited travel; background-check eligible. Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct Azure Communication Services experience (Calling, Call Automation, SMS, Email, Chat, Advanced Messaging, Job Router) - preferred, not required.
  • Experience landing customers on Microsoft 1P destinations: Teams / Teams Phone, Dynamics 365 Contact Center, Azure Event Grid or Logic Apps, Microsoft Graph.
  • Regulated-industry migrations (financial services, healthcare, public sector) or high-volume messaging compliance (10DLC, consent/opt-in, deliverability).
  • Consulting or partner delivery against fixed-fee, milestone-based scopes.
