Job DescriptionPosition OverviewFusion Innovation is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to design, build, and evolve a large-scale, globally distributed mission system operating across AWS cloud environments and on-premises virtualized infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the architecture and implementation of secure, repeatable Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) patterns supporting compute fleets, network connectivity, storage, and platform services across development, test, staging, production, and lab environments. The ideal candidate combines deep AWS architecture expertise with hands-on Terraform experience and a strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, security, networking, and application teams to improve reliability, standardize deployments, strengthen security, and accelerate delivery through automation.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement reference architectures for AWS and hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
- Define scalable deployment patterns for multi-account and multi-environment separation, network segmentation, compute, and storage.
- Establish standardized AWS landing-zone practices, including account structures, security guardrails, centralized logging, tagging, governance, and cost controls.
- Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns for production AWS environments.
- Develop infrastructure patterns supporting VPCs, IAM roles and policies, load balancing, logging, compute, storage, and related AWS services.
- Architect and support virtualized compute fleets using VMware/vSphere for on-premises environments.
- Establish and maintain patterns for golden images, patching baselines, provisioning workflows, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to implement secure-by-design architectures incorporating least-privilege IAM, encryption, network controls, and centralized audit logging.
- Design resilient infrastructure incorporating backup and restore strategies, disaster recovery considerations, and multi-Availability Zone patterns.
- Support CI/CD automation for infrastructure deployments using Git-based workflows integrated with Terraform planning and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with application teams to establish standardized environments and reusable deployment blueprints.
- Translate technical and mission requirements into scalable, secure, maintainable architecture solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance throughout implementation and deployment.
- Produce and maintain architecture documentation, including logical and physical diagrams, environment definitions, deployment standards, and as-built artifacts.
Required Skills- Active Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph.
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical field; four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
- 10-15+ years of experience in cloud architecture, systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related discipline, including 3+ years serving as a hands-on AWS architect or technical lead.
- Deep expertise with AWS core services and secure architectures, including networking, IAM, logging, compute, and storage.
- Hands-on expertise with Terraform for production-grade Infrastructure-as-Code, including modules, state management, promotion strategies, and drift detection.
- Experience designing and operating hybrid environments combining cloud infrastructure and on-premises virtualization.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into scalable, maintainable, and secure architectures while providing implementation guidance.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security, reliability, availability, and operational support.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 10%.
- Active passport or ability to obtain one upon hire.
Desired Skills- AWS certifications, with AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional preferred.
- Experience with VMware/vSphere architecture and operations, including templates, clusters, networking, and storage.
- Familiarity with configuration and infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and Packer.
- Experience with GitOps-style infrastructure workflows.
- Experience implementing observability patterns across metrics, logs, and traces and integrating monitoring into operational environments.
- Experience implementing AWS multi-account governance using AWS Organizations and Service Control Policies (SCPs).
- Experience implementing cloud cost-management practices, including tagging standards and budgets.
Additional DetailsFusion Innovation anticipates the annual base salary for this position will generally range from $100,000 to $215,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
- Relevant education, certifications, and training
- Years of direct applicable experience with this work and the customer
- Contract labor category requirements, skill level, contract bill rate, and hours allocation
- Alignment with the position's responsibilities
- Additional specialized skills
