Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Certified Pre-screener, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or license-eligible preferred. Experience serving individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), engaging with Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) State Hospital personnel and supporting Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) acquittees and/or court-involved individuals preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others. Working knowledge of the State Hospital Discharge Protocols, Discharge Assistance Project Program and DBHDS Forensic Office/Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Statute preferred.

Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Works in collaboration with the NGRI Coordinator to monitor NGRI acquittees during hospitalization; develops conditional release plans in addition to working with individuals who have been court-ordered to receive outpatient evaluation;
• Coordinates care for acquittees involved in the NGRI process, including arranging 8-hour pass activities, 48-hour pass placements, and additional services as appropriate;
• Attends state hospital treatment team meetings to coordinate care and prepare for the discharge of acquittees on conditional release;
• Submits and maintains Discharge Assistance Program (DAP) plans for NGRI clients for funding of services; continues management of DAP plans if needed throughout the conditional release process;
• Delivers outpatient restoration interventions and supports in accordance with program needs;
• Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health treatment;
• Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation; and
• Performs other work as required.
