Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a talented Senior Road Designer for our Toronto West office. Working within our Design & Engineering teams, you'll create some of the world's most iconic and ground-breaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, from making journeys easier to opening public places that bring people together.

We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today's mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world's growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.

Role accountabilities:

As a Senior Civil Designer, you will play an important role in delivering a range of infrastructure projects, focusing particularly on detailed design for municipal and linear infrastructure. Your involvement will help ensure that project objectives are met and that technical requirements are translated into practical solutions.

Preparing preliminary and detailed designs is central to this position, covering all facets of civil engineering such as grading, drainage, utilities, and construction detailing. Your technical skill and attention to detail are vital in producing accurate and comprehensive design documentation that supports effective project delivery.

Maintaining high drafting and modeling standards is a key expectation, and you will work closely with the CAD standards group to uphold these standards across all project outputs. Consistent coordination with this group will help ensure that designs align with organizational protocols and industry best practices.

Collaboration with other design disciplines is essential for successful project execution. You will also provide guidance and assistance to junior and intermediate designers on both design concepts and software questions, helping to build team capability and support continuous professional development within the group.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or College diploma in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Technology with a focus on Transportation or Municipal

  • Experience managing small projects and studies is considered an asset
  • Prepare engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications using tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and OpenRoads
  • Collaborative attitude when working with other members of a road and transportation team
  • Ability to work independently, with direction and supervision provided as needed based on the complexity of assignments
  • Lead and contribute to the planning, preliminary, and detailed design of roadways and highways
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal design standards such as TAC, OTM, and MTO Design Supplements
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, and design calculations

The salary range for this position is $93,000 - $139,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
