This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Civil Engineer - Solid Waste focused on civil site development and solid waste/landfill engineering for our Irvine,CA office. This role will support projects with our Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization that helps clients meet their objectives and solve complex engineering challenges.

In this dual-role position, you will support both traditional civil site development and solid waste/landfill engineering projects. The successful candidate will contribute across areas including civil design, earthwork construction, piping systems, surface water management, erosion control, and landfill permitting and design, while bringing a strong commitment to quality, clear communication, and client-focused work products. Some travel will be required.
Your Impact
  • Develop, scope, and manage small-sized civil and solid waste engineering projects.
  • Prepare civil layout, grading, drainage, and earthwork designs for civil sites and landfills.
  • Prepare engineering design reports, drawings, technical specifications, and engineer's estimates.
  • Support construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, and field coordination.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Train and guide junior staff in technical delivery, quality expectations, and project execution.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans.
  • Interpret and summarize technical data, reports, and documents to support sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
  • Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to provide trusted-advisor service and future-ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Interact with and help direct field staff for CQA efforts during construction
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience in civil engineering design and/or construction.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience in some of the following areas, with a willingness to learn the others: civil site layout/design, drainage calculations/design, construction support such as submittal reviews and RFIs, solid waste/landfill design and construction, earthwork construction and soils testing, permitting documents, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineer's estimates.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D, including alignments, corridors, grading objects, and earthwork volume calculations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong work history with leadership ability, sound judgment, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to perform technical computations, apply engineering principles, interpret plans and specifications, and compare findings to applicable regulations.
  • Ability to provide guidance and leadership to junior-level team or project members while maintaining strict adherence to quality assurance and quality control expectations.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and ability to comply with WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and anti-harassment policies.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs and schedules.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Civl Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation
Expected Salary: $107,500 - $156,600
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
