As Senior Buyer, you’ll be responsible for the planning and execution of sales budgets and assortment plans. You’ll oversee category management, assortment planning, supplier management, sourcing, inventory management, pricing, promotional planning, and product lifecycle management for your scope of products. You’ll never get bored in this role while you’re tracking and understanding product trends and proactively managing the product assortment to meet the needs of the consumer. Plus, you’ll work cross-functionally and interface across the company, making this a great opportunity to learn the business and build your career.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a high level of retail experience in category management and assortment planning, strong analytical and process management skills, the ability to successfully manage simultaneous projects, and outstanding interpersonal and team development skills.

What You’ll Do - Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the category strategy, including assortment plan and merchandising tactics to achieve the sales and margin goals.
  • Drive innovation and newness in the product assortment.
  • Understand industry product trends and opportunities.
  • Manage supplier relationships and lower product costs through fact-based negotiations.
  • Drive the category strategy, including sourcing, assortment product mix, inventory management, promotions, and pricing that is grounded in fact-based decision-making.
  • Perform in-depth category reviews regularly to review assortment performance and develop action plans to drive sustainable sales and margin growth.
  • Maximize productivity of category including assortment rationalization, lifecycle management, inventory position and performance for store set.
  • Conduct competitive shops to understand assortment mix, in-store merchandising, pricing, and promotional offers for the RTO and general retail channels.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive the business and actively seek the ideas of others and value differing perspectives.
What We’re Looking For – Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related quantitative field required
  • 5+ years of retail merchant experience at the senior level
  • Firm understanding of category management and assortment planning practices, including SKU rationalization strategies, markdown practices, and sales reporting practices.
  • Proven experience gathering and understanding product trends.
  • High level of creativity to support product innovation and newness.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Proven vendor negotiation skills.
  • Great attention to detail while understanding big-picture objectives and strategy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; prioritize multiple projects simultaneously; adapt to changes in project scope.
  • Ability to build and foster cross-departmental partnerships to achieve common objectives.
  • Self-directed and highly driven with strong business sense and professional presence.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and related reporting tools.
  • The ability to meet the physical demands for this position, which frequently includes remaining in a stationary position, moving freely inside and occasionally outside of the office, and the operation of mechanical controls, such as a keyboard. 

Nice to Haves – Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • MBA is a plus
  • Experience managing product categories in an Omni channel environment is a plus.
