In this business development role, you will be responsible for community outreach to increase awareness of Banner’s services and drive surgical volume growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business development, marketing or healthcare sales.

This position is for candidates residing in the Phoenix area. Hours may vary based on needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The position is a key contributor to Banner Health’s growth initiatives by leveraging advanced expertise in provider engagement and business development strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape and business development processes to build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with community providers. The incumbent will act as a strategic advisor, guiding both internal teams and providers to overcome challenges, optimize referral workflows, and drive business growth. By anticipating provider needs and providing innovative solutions, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in enhancing Banner Health’s market presence and aligning efforts with long-term organizational goals.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Ability to provide strategic guidance and leverage advanced expertise in healthcare business development to advise internal teams and community providers on overcoming complex referral barriers. Guide the enhancement of provider collaboration, streamline workflows, and drive business growth, offering in-depth insights to shape key business strategies aligned with Banner Health’s objectives.

2. Must demonstrate and cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with community providers by proactively addressing their needs and challenges. Act as the primary liaison between providers and Banner Health, ensuring that all interactions foster long-term partnerships that support referral growth and retention while aligning with organizational goals.

3. Skilled in using data insights to develop and implement strategies for referral growth, retention, and demand generation. Continuously monitor provider performance, identifying areas for improvement and leveraging analytics to recommend innovative solutions that optimize provider engagement and enhance operational efficiency in line with strategic objectives.

4. Capable of working closely with internal teams (business development, marketing, strategy, IT, operations) to ensure the seamless execution of growth initiatives. Provide advisory support to promote programs and services effectively within the provider network, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and maximizing performance.

5. Aptitude for planning and participating in provider engagement events to strengthen relationships, encourage collaboration, and promote Banner Health’s services. Ensure these events align with broader strategic goals, contribute to market expansion, and enhance provider loyalty and engagement.

6. Competent to serve as the primary contact for resolving complex provider issues, ensuring timely resolution, and maintaining high levels of provider satisfaction. Take a strategic, proactive approach to identify and resolve challenges related to referral processes and service delivery, ensuring a seamless provider and patient experience.

7. Has the capacity to regularly assess the effectiveness of business development and provider engagement strategies. Utilize data-driven insights to identify areas for optimization and provide actionable recommendations to enhance referral processes, improve retention, and drive overall business success.

8. Possesses the skill to stay ahead of market trends, provider needs, and competitive dynamics to inform the development of effective growth strategies. Provide actionable insights and recommendations that support the expansion of Banner Health’s market share, enhance network reach, and improve referral and retention outcomes.

9. Has the proficiency to facilitate clear communication and strategic alignment between Banner Health and its provider network. Serve as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and external providers, ensuring alignment on growth strategies, marketing initiatives, and engagement activities that drive the success of Banner Health’s business development efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of healthcare business development or provider engagement as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent working knowledge.

At least five years of experience in healthcare business development, sales, or provider relationship management, with a proven track record of implementing data-driven strategies to drive growth and operational success.

Advanced understanding of large healthcare systems, referral pathways, and provider relationships.

Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to advise senior leadership, collaborate across functions, and manage complex relationships.

Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle (expenses covered per Banner Travel Policy). Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours for provider events and meetings. Position requires approximately 80% travel time.

Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in healthcare trends, regulations, and business development principles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree preferred.

Proficiency in communication, collaboration, project management, critical thinking, and data analysis. Customer-focused, empathetic, proactive, and results-oriented approach. Background in business development, healthcare sales, or marketing. Knowledge of healthcare systems, business intelligence, and time management.

Expertise in data analytics and using insights to drive referral growth, retention, and demand generation.
