Full Job Description
About the role

As a (Senior) BESS Engineer at TWAICE, you sit at the intersection of customer-facing engineering and battery performance analysis. You will be TWAICE's primary technical point of contact for asset owners, O&M teams, and developers across the Americas. The role spans pre-sales through in-life support: technical discovery, data-readiness assessments, customer onboarding, KPI rollout, and performance analysis for commissioning and augmentation events.

Your daily business will involve

  • Serving as primary technical contact for US and Americas customers, building relationships with both technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Supporting pre-sales alongside Sales and Solution Engineering: technical discovery, data-readiness assessments, and architecture discussions
  • Leading technical onboarding: reviewing Single Line Diagrams, mapping sensor hierarchies (cell to string to rack to enclosure to PCS to system), and configuring sensor specifications in Databricks before KPI rollout
  • Managing KPI rollout and validation: releasing TWAICE KPIs, and diagnosing sensor data quality issues, insufficient cycling data, and aggregation errors
  • Leading performance analysis during commissioning and augmentation: interpreting capacity test results, flagging anomalies (cell imbalances, voltage spread issues, RTE gaps), and producing executive-ready outputs.
  • Surfacing recurring product gaps and customer feedback to Product and Engineering
  • Running platform training for performance engineers, O&M leads, and asset managers
  • Up to 25% travel for customer meetings and on-site visits across the Americas

Your profile

  • BESS industry experience is required. You have worked as a performance engineer, systems engineer, or O&M engineer. You know what happens inside a BESS project from commissioning through the first year of operation
  • Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated BESS experience
  • Comfortable with Python in an analytical context: processing sensor data, validating signal quality, debugging anomalies. Databricks experience is a plus
  • Deep knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior, degradation mechanisms, capacity fade, DC internal resistance, SoC estimation, and cell voltage/temperature imbalances
  • Familiarity with BESS data flows and ingestion protocols (Modbus, IEC-104, OPC-UA, REST API, SFTP)
  • Working knowledge with US wholesale power markets and ISOs/RTOs (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE, NYISO)
  • Clear communicator, strong English required; Spanish is a plus for broader Americas coverage
  • Organized, customer-focused, and comfortable in a fast-moving startup
Please consider that the requirements are not listed in order of relevance. We know that it is close to impossible to fulfill all requirements. If you feel that you can make a valuable contribution, we'd be delighted to receive your application regardless.

What we offer

  • Flexible Working: We trust you to get the job done. Remote-first with autonomy on how and where you deliver. Everyone comes together for our annual kick-off at Munich HQ.
  • Equity Participation: Every employee is offered a stock-option plan so you can share in TWAICE's success.
  • Perks: Health coverage, 401(k), team offsites twice a year.
