Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Automation Engineer who can operate as both a technical leader and a force multiplier across the organization. This role extends beyond writing automated tests and requires an individual who can contribute to and influence automation strategy and engineering practices, mentor peers, and take ownership of critical quality initiatives.

The ideal candidate is someone who challenges the status quo, continuously seeks opportunities for improvement, and is comfortable taking ownership of complex initiatives with minimal supervision. This role will carry many responsibilities related to a software developer due to its heavy C# focused nature with infrastructure considerations. We are looking for an engineer with a proven track record of building scalable automation solutions, improving engineering quality standards, and driving organizational change through technical leadership.

This is a hybrid remote role that requires onsite presence in Pittston, PA at least once every other month. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of either the Pittston, PA or Omaha, NE BHDIC office for required onsite meetings as needed in whichever BHDIC office is local to the employee.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a champion for automation best practices across multiple engineering teams.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve automation frameworks, tooling, and testing strategies.
  • Challenge existing processes and advocate for solutions that improve quality, scalability, maintainability, and efficiency.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to engineering, QA, and product teams on automation-related decisions.
  • Identify risks and coverage gaps before they become production issues.

Automation Framework Ownership:
  • Design, maintain, and enhance enterprise-scale automation frameworks.
  • Contribute to and influence architecture decisions with a focus on long-term sustainability.
  • Establish coding standards and framework patterns that improve consistency across teams and ensure automation solutions are maintainable, scalable, and reliable.

Code Quality & Mentorship:
  • Analyze and troubleshoot API behavior and performance, applying sound engineering practices and security considerations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for automation repositories and frameworks.
  • Perform thorough code reviews that elevate the quality of contributions across the organization.
  • Support the growth of other engineers through technical feedback, design discussions, and best-practice guidance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Cross-Functional Impact:
  • Operate as a force multiplier by supporting multiple engineering teams rather than a single product team.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, QA engineers, and leadership to improve testing effectiveness.
  • Drive initiatives that increase engineering velocity while maintaining quality standards.
  • Influence teams to adopt efficient, scalable testing solutions.

Tooling & Platform Ownership:
  • Assume ownership of critical automation tools and validation platforms.
  • Maintain and enhance existing automation solutions to ensure long-term stability and reliability.
  • Drive technical aspects of transitions and migrations between testing platforms and technologies.
  • Create solutions that close testing and validation gaps during organizational changes or technology migrations.

Quality Engineering Excellence:
  • Contribute to and optimize automation integration within CI/CD pipelines to improve reliability, speed, and release confidence.
  • Develop comprehensive test automation solutions covering UI, API, integration, and validation testing.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual testing effort through automation, improving test reliability, execution speed, and overall effectiveness.
  • Utilize automation as a strategic tool to improve release confidence and reduce organizational risk.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Strong understanding of test architecture, design patterns, and maintainability principles

  • Demonstrated ability to influence engineering decisions without formal authority and operate in environments with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to mentor engineers and elevate team performance through coaching and feedback
