The hiring range for this position is $35.88 - $44.85/hourly

This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate can work up to 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, accrue paid time off, and receive 11 paid holidays.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION JOB

The Senior Audio-Visual Engineer assesses and optimizes the performance of City of Aurora audio-visual systems. This role is responsible for analyzing the performance of audio-visual systems, resolving IT audio-visual equipment and software issues, and providing audio-visual support to our personnel.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates and administers audio/visual and collaboration technologies in support of public meetings, internal meetings, and special events.


  • Operates and maintains existing technologies and systems in City facilities, with a particular focus on City Council Chambers and certain alternative meeting venues.


  • Performs a lead role in the selection, procurement, installation, and maintenance of new audio-visual and collaboration technologies.


  • Collaborates and coordinates with other IT team members as needed in support of hybrid meeting technologies.


  • Attends City Council meetings (regular meetings, special meetings, and study sessions) in person to address any technical issues with in-scope systems.


  • Works cooperatively with the Media, Community Engagement Department, and City Clerk's Office to ensure a comfortable and cohesive meeting experience for participants, both in person and online.


  • Coordinates and collaborates with external consultants as needed to accomplish objectives.


  • Works with AuroraTV to ensure successful broadcast of the hybrid meeting leveraging audio and visual capabilities.


  • At meeting time, assists presenters with the display and navigation of materials such as PowerPoint slides, PDFs, spreadsheets, Word documents, YouTube videos, and other media within a Teams environment.


  • Attends special events and any board/commission meetings requiring audio/visual analyst support.


  • Administers eScribe Meeting Management at meeting times and supports staff members using the software.


  • Works to streamline and standardize hybrid meeting technologies across city facilities.


  • Assists with Request for Proposals (RFP) process regarding audio/visual and hybrid meeting projects.


  • Works with other IT team members across a broad range of technological needs, both within and outside of the audio/visual domain.


  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.


Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in the audio-visual systems, collaboration technologies, or unified communications.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with collaboration technologies (e.g., WebEx, Microsoft Teams, or similar platforms)


  • Experience with audio-visual equipment and related systems (e.g., Crestron, Logitech, Poly, or comparable technologies)


  • Experience with audio-visual industry standards and developing technologies and practices.


Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of audio-visual system design, integration, and lifecycle management (including signal flow, acoustics, and video distribution)


  • Knowledge of collaboration platforms and hybrid meeting technologies (e.g., Microsoft Teams, streaming/broadcast integrations, meeting management systems such as eScribe)


  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals as they relate to AV systems (IP-based AV, bandwidth considerations, QoS, and device connectivity)


  • Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in AV and unified communications (e.g., AV-over-IP, interoperability standards)


  • Knowledge of procurement processes, including RFP development, vendor evaluation, and contract coordination in a public sector environment


  • Knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies for hardware, software, and integrated AV systems


  • Knowledge of computer programs and hardware.


  • Knowledge of service and/or help desk ticketing software (ie. ServiceNow, Cherwell, etc.) and task management software.


Skills:

  • Skill in diagnosing and resolving complex AV system issues in real-time, particularly in time-sensitive environments such as Council meetings and public broadcasts


  • Skill in configuring, integrating, and optimizing audio-visual and collaboration technologies across multiple facilities


  • Skill in supporting live hybrid meetings, including managing multimedia content, presentation tools, and participant experience across in-person and virtual platforms


  • Skill in project coordination, including planning, implementing, and standardizing AV systems and processes


  • Skill in collaborating with cross-functional teams (IT, media/broadcast, clerks, and external vendors) to deliver seamless AV experiences


  • Skill in documenting system configurations, processes, and standards to support consistency and scalability


  • Skill in communicating technical concepts effectively to non-technical users, including elected officials and staff


Abilities:

  • Ability to lead and execute AV system improvements and modernization initiatives with minimal supervision


  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively under time-sensitive and high-pressure conditions (e.g., live meetings and events)


  • Ability to analyze system performance and implement continuous improvements to enhance reliability and user experience


  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and integrate new tools into existing environments

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Colorado driver's license and ability to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position


Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate


  • Any other Industry-Recognized IT Certifications


WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 75 pounds with or without assistance.
