Full Job Description

The Lead Discovery and Optimization Group within Therapeutic Discovery Sciences in San Diego focuses on delivering novel therapeutics for disease intervention by engaging E3 ubiquitin ligases for targeted protein degradation. We seek a highly driven senior associate scientist to help identify and characterize drug candidates for the treatment of human diseases. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment to carry out cell-based and molecular assays in support of small molecule discovery for pre-clinical development.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implementation of high-throughput cell-based reporter assays to characterize drug candidates

  • Establish stable cell lines via lentiviral transduction and maintain mammalian cell lines

  • Conduct routine molecular and cellular experiments including DNA/RNA/protein extraction, immunoblot analysis, and immunoprecipitation

  • Utilize Python, R, or similar programming languages to analyze, interpret, visualize, and communicate complex scientific data, applying advanced analytical techniques to generate actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making

  • Assist senior researchers in executing, conducting analyses, and reporting results of experiments

  • Familiarity with literature and internal best practices to identify opportunities to improve productivity and quality of work

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and recommend corrective actions for routine problems

  • Maintain an accurate, comprehensive, and current laboratory notebook

  • Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports

  • Communicate results via written reports and oral presentations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Master’s Degree with 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with no experience necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture, plate-based cellular assays, immunoblotting, lentiviral infection, cellular transfection, and basic molecular biology techniques

  • Experience with medium and high-throughput screening is highly preferred

  • Experience with targeted protein degradation assay is a plus

  • Familiarity with automation instruments and multi-mode plate readers

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages, with the ability to apply advanced analytical techniques to interpret, visualize, and communicate meaningful results

  • Outstanding problem-solving and organization skills.

  • Effective team player and strong individual contributor

  • Self-driven, flexible, pragmatic, and able to handle multiple tasks while delivering high quality data

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Compensation Overview:

San Diego - CA - US: $118,750 - $143,901

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off

  • Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt, Non-Exempt, Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.

Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility.
