Full Job Description
Avalere Health is seeking a Senior Associate to join its Policy Practice. We rely on deep subject matter expertise and understanding of the business issues facing our clients to assess how the changing policy landscape impacts the pharmaceutical industry, managed care plans, providers, and patients. We provide analytic support and advisory services, including regulatory analysis, evidence generation/review support, policy analysis, legislative strategy, and modelling of proposed and enacted policies to a wide range of clients across the healthcare industry, using both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Senior Associates are critical roles within the Policy Practice and support multiple projects and accounts. Senior Associates work closely with project managers and subject matter experts to analyze and research policy proposals, create client deliverables, and track market developments impacting all healthcare stakeholders. The Senior Associate position provides a unique opportunity to learn about the U.S. healthcare system and how policy proposals develop into real-world implications for patients & impact key business decisions made by healthcare stakeholders to impact and/or adapt to policy developments.

This position will work across many policy domains, including: Medicare and Medicaid policy, the Inflation Reduction Act and drug price negotiation, vaccine-specific policy, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D, Medicaid managed care and health insurance coverage policy included in the Affordable Care act, and drug pricing policies such as the 340B program.

What you'll do

  • Assist senior staff with account stewardship through management of cross-functional projects to solve complex client problems
  • Coordinate subject matter experts (SMEs), technical staff, vendors/partners, client teams, and others to ensure the efficient operation and delivery of projects and programs under their management
  • Support the development of both strategic and tactical recommendations for Avalere clients
  • Manage short- and long-term deliverables, to ensure that all of Avalere's knowledge and expertise are available to meet client needs
  • Use subject matter experience and general understanding of healthcare issues to collaborate and bridge work between practices, becoming a recognized resource within the firm and to clients
  • Develop and maintain a professional level of knowledge regarding Avalere's and Avalere Health's services and products


About you

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, which could include employment at biopharmaceutical manufacturing, health plan, health sciences consulting and advisory services, public sector (e.g. CDC) roles, or other healthcare-related organizations
  • A graduate degree in public policy, health sciences, health policy, epidemiology/biostatistics or public health more broadly. A combination of bachelor's degree and in-depth relevant work experience is also acceptable.


Subject matter expertise should reflect a proficient level of understanding of:
  • Important aspects of healthcare policy
  • Policy analysis and characterization of legislative & regulatory impacts, challenges, and unintended consequences
  • Qualitative and quantitative public health research methods
  • Primary and secondary research and analytic methods
  • Evidence generation, review, and appraisal


Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements:
  • Experience analyzing policy proposals, legislation, and/or regulation and translating findings to varying audiences appropriately
  • Superior oral and written communications skills in order to clearly and effectively convey issues, reports, and other deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and other excellent time management skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, including implementing functions, pivot tables, and visualizations, with preference for advanced Excel-based modeling experience
  • Ability to effectively synthesize research into PowerPoint presentations with content accuracy, thoughtful design, and efficient use of PPT tools to create clean, compelling slides
  • Commitment to working in a team environment with an emphasis on collaboration and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and clients.

$75,000 - $95,000 a year
