What You’ll Be Doing

The Capital Markets division at CIBC delivers innovative solutions to corporate, government, and institutional clients throughout North America and key financial centres globally. As a Senior Associate in Institutional Equity Research, you’ll join the Equities team, which is dedicated to providing original ideas, exceptional service, and performance to institutional investors. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Research Analyst covering the Financial Institutions sector, including banks and insurance companies. You’ll leverage your expertise in financial analysis to support sector coverage, gather and analyze industry and company information, and contribute to thematic reports. You’ll also develop and maintain financial models and databases, gaining valuable experience in research and analysis that drives investment decisions. Your work will directly impact the team’s ability to advise clients and execute on key investment strategies.

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $125,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Research & Analysis – Conduct industry and company analysis, gather information from primary, secondary, and alternative sources, and recognize and analyze industry trends.

  • Report Writing – Assist in writing company-specific and thematic reports, and maintain financial models and databases to support research coverage.

  • Client Engagement – Participate in regular and ad hoc calls with public company senior management, and attend industry events to gather direct data and insights.

  • Collaboration – Liaise with Sales, Trading, Investment Banking colleagues, and clients as required to support research initiatives.

  • Attention to Detail – Apply strong analytical and quantitative skills to complete and explain detailed financial and statistical analysis.

Who You Are

  • You’re a certified professional. You hold a Bachelor of Commerce in combination with a CFA or MBA or CA, CPA (with a strong component of finance based course work) will be considered.

  • You can demonstrate two years of experience inCapital Markets, ideally experience as a research associate within the financial sector. As well as excellent knowledge of PC applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). AI, programming and automation skills are also valued. You demonstrate interest in the capital markets industry through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience.
