Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Senior Associate will work on the Funds & Advisory team within the Strategic Investments Group. The Funds & Advisory team manages a diversified portfolio that, consistent with the rest of NYCEDC, is dedicated to expanding opportunity and enriching NYC's economy. Investments are made directly in companies and into funds. Investments cut across asset classes, including debt, equity, and guarantees and seek blended financial and social / environmental returns. The Funds & Advisory team also advises internal and external stakeholders on a range of strategic initiatives and financial topics.

The Senior Associate will assist with all aspects of the impact investment process, including pipeline sourcing, financial analysis and modeling, due diligence, investment memorandum preparation, presentation to the relevant governance committee(s), legal documentation, transaction execution and funding. The Senior Associate will also assist with the broader advisory function, ongoing fund portfolio monitoring and reporting and research-based evaluation and program design associated with the launch of new impact investment tools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Source pipeline and screen business plans to cultivate impact investment opportunities
  • Support due diligence in the form of business model evaluation, financial analysis, and industry/market analysis
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models, including ability to isolate and manipulate key model drivers
  • Assist with investment structuring and credit and valuation analyses (e.g., IRR and DCF analyses)
  • Review and negotiate term sheets and legal documentation
  • Prepare investment memorandums and presentations to inform senior decision-making, including presenting investment recommendations to NYCEDC executive staff, board members, and City officials
  • Assist with fund monitoring and reporting, including financial and impact returns
  • Support internal and external colleagues with impact investment program design and execution
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses to evaluate new impact investment programs and strategic opportunities
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other NYCEDC departments, including but not limited to Legal, Finance, Strategy, and Initiatives to support organizational and city priorities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree
  • At least 3 years of transactional experience in a relevant field (e.g., investing, investment banking, private equity, real estate finance)
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with impact investing that balances financial returns with measurable social, economic, or environmental outcomes preferred.
  • Proven financial analysis skills, including financial modeling, underwriting and/or valuation, and quantitative analysis
  • Proficiency using spreadsheet and presentation applications, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and engagement with external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate information, identify trends, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, with the ability to assess opportunities and support informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess opportunities through analytical and critical thinking to support sound decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work independently and contribute effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated interest in NYC, public policy, public-private partnerships, and program design
  • NYC residency is required within 180 days of hire


Salary Range

$90,000-$92,000 USD
