Job Description:
The Senior Associate Dean serves as the chief internal administrative and academic leader of the College and is a key strategic partner to the Dean. This position provides executive leadership for the College's academic, research, administrative, and operational functions while helping advance the College's mission of excellence in education, research, innovation, and public service.

The successful candidate will be a visionary, collaborative, and results-oriented leader with demonstrated success in higher education administration and faculty leadership. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional emotional intelligence, sound judgment, strategic thinking, outstanding communication skills, organizational leadership, integrity, and the ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholders.

Working closely with the Dean, department chairs, faculty, staff, students, and university leadership, the Senior Associate Dean will help position the College for continued national prominence while ensuring excellence in day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives.

The Senior Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and will:

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Dean in developing, implementing, and assessing the College's strategic priorities and operational goals in alignment with the University's strategic plan.
  • Serve as the College's principal internal leader, coordinating major academic and administrative initiatives across departments and administrative units.
  • Provide executive leadership for college-wide planning, organizational effectiveness, continuous improvement, and change management initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative culture that advances innovation, accountability, transparency, and operational excellence.

Academic Excellence

  • Provide leadership for academic affairs, ensuring the continued excellence and quality of undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, academic program development, accreditation activities, institutional assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Support the development of innovative educational programs, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and experiential education initiatives that prepare students for leadership in engineering.
  • Partner with academic leadership to promote student success, academic achievement, retention, advising, and career readiness.

Faculty Affairs

  • Provide executive leadership for faculty affairs, including faculty recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, development, evaluation, promotion, tenure, and retention.
  • Support department chairs in developing high-performing academic units while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment where faculty can thrive.
  • Promote leadership development and succession planning across the College.

Resource Stewardship

  • Collaborate with college leadership to develop resource allocation strategies that support strategic priorities and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with finance, facilities, and administrative leaders to ensure responsible stewardship of college resources, infrastructure planning, and operational efficiency.

Partnerships and External Engagement

  • Support the Dean in cultivating productive relationships with alumni, industry, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the College in university committees, professional organizations, industry partnerships, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Assist in advancing philanthropic, corporate engagement, and strategic partnership opportunities that strengthen the College's mission.

Collaboration and Institutional Leadership

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering departments and with colleges, institutes, and centers throughout the University.
  • Work closely with university leadership, deans, department chairs, faculty, and administrative leaders to address institutional priorities and advance shared goals.
  • Promote effective communication, collaboration, and coordination across all College functions.

Leadership and Administration

  • Provide leadership and oversight for assigned administrative units and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and implement policies, processes, and operational improvements that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead special projects and institutional initiatives assigned by the Dean.
  • Serve as acting representative for the Dean as delegated.
