Full Job Description

Tempus is seeking a highly qualified Senior Associate, Analytics & Business Insights to join our growing Sales Operations team. In this role, you will go beyond standard reporting to serve as a strategic partner to our Diagnostics Commercial leadership team. We are looking for a proactive problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, someone capable of mining complex datasets to identify underlying growth drivers and emerging business risks before they surface. This position requires a deep curiosity for the "business behind the data" and the ability to translate sophisticated analytics into clear, actionable recommendations that inform our commercial strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive Strategic Discovery: Serve as the primary "analytical detective" for the oncology and neuropsychiatry commercial organizations, proactively analyzing complex datasets to uncover hidden growth drivers, market trends, and potential business risks.

  • Translate Data into Narrative: Go beyond the "what" to explain the "so what." You will synthesize raw data into clear, compelling stories and actionable recommendations that allow commercial leadership to make informed, high-stakes decisions.

  • Synthesize Quantitative & Qualitative Intelligence: Pair rigorous data analysis with “boots on the ground” insights from field teams to uncover the root cause of business challenges. You will bridge the gap between what the data says and what the field is experiencing to propose viable, real-world solutions.

  • Own the Investigative Process: Act as a self-starter in identifying business needs and performance trends. You will take the lead on navigating ambiguity, moving from a raw business question to a polished summary with the support of leadership as a sounding board.

  • Act as a Commercial Partner: Build deep relationships with sales and other commercial teams to understand their tactical needs, serving as their go-to expert for data-driven insights and strategic thought partnership.

  • Define and Monitor Success: Establish and track sophisticated KPIs that reflect the health of our commercial performance, ensuring that reporting isn't just a backward-looking exercise but a forward-looking strategy tool.

  • Advanced Insight Synthesis: Harness the power of modern data visualization platforms and emerging AI tools to synthesize complex data into real-time, automated insights. You will ensure our commercial organization has instantaneous access to the metrics that matter most, shifting the focus from data collection to data-driven action.

  • Strategic Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the broader Sales Operations team and key stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Business Development, and Finance to incorporate a holistic perspective into your assessments. You will align on key data streams and business assumptions to ensure a unified and accurate narrative is presented to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Finance, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or Economics).

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data-driven business analytics. The core of your experience must be in analyzing complex datasets to generate business-critical insights and strategic recommendations.

  • Analytical Core: Expert-level proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and a proven track record of using modern BI/data visualization tools to extract insights from complex datasets.

  • The "Detective" Mindset: Demonstrated ability to independently investigate data to identify growth drivers and performance gaps without a predefined roadmap.

  • Communication & Synthesis: Proven experience translating complex, raw data into clear, succinct, and "executive-ready" presentations that highlight the "so what."

  • Relationship Management: Ability to develop strong partnerships across departments (Sales, Marketing, Finance, etc.) and influence decision-making without direct authority.

  • Operational Excellence: High attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy, paired with the organizational skills to balance multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-Starter Mentality: Thrives in ambiguity and is capable of proactively seeking out information and resources to deliver results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial experience in oncology, with clinician-facing products, and/or within a life sciences organization

  • Experience working with large-scale life sciences datasets

  • Familiarity with statistical techniques (e.g., trend analysis, regression, or cluster analysis) to validate business hypotheses.

Chi: $83,000 - $105,000

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
