Your Opportunity

Stantec's growing Healthcare practice is seeking a Senior Architect - Healthcare to join our Houston leadership team. This role is for an experienced, licensed architect who brings strong healthcare expertise and a proven ability to lead teams through the full lifecycle of complex projects.

As a Senior Architect, you will partner closely with Project Managers and Design Leaders to shape project vision, guide technical and design teams, and ensure design excellence from planning through construction and close-out. You will play a key role in client relationships, consultant coordination, and internal mentorship while supporting multiple healthcare projects concurrently, including acute and sub-acute care facilities.

This position balances design leadership, technical oversight, and strategic collaboration, serving as a trusted resource for clients and a leader within the studio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural delivery of medium to large, complex healthcare projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, regulatory requirements, budget, and schedule.
  • Provide design and technical leadership across all phases of work-from validation and pre-design through construction administration and close-out.
  • Champion design excellence, critical thinking, and innovation while maintaining rigorous healthcare standards.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Design Leaders to guide teams of architects and designers, establishing clear expectations and accountability.
  • Direct and review BIM-based design and documentation to ensure accuracy, coordination, and consistency with design intent.
  • Lead or participate in design critiques, technical reviews, and constructability assessments.
  • Coordinate architectural design with consultants, contractors, and owners to resolve complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Evaluate and guide selection of building systems and materials appropriate for healthcare environments.
  • Ensure accessibility, life-safety, and applicable building codes are integrated into design solutions.
  • Maintain continuity of design intent through documentation and construction.
  • Support sustainable design strategies appropriate for healthcare facilities.
  • Participate in programming, site analysis, and early planning efforts as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource to architects and designers within the healthcare studio.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically at a senior level.
  • Proven track record of delivering healthcare design perceived externally as excellent.
  • Strong communication skills-verbal, written, and visual-with the ability to present to clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate large team with multiple consultants on complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare building systems, constructability, materials, and industry standards.
  • Deep knowledge of the relationship between drawings, specifications, and construction execution.
  • Expertise applying accessibility, building, and life-safety codes across complex healthcare project types.
  • Advanced proficiency in BIM workflows and collaborative project delivery.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, and Bluebeam; familiarity with emerging modeling and visualization tools is a plus.
  • Ability to manage workload across multiple projects and meet critical deadlines.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field
  • Licensed Architect in Texas required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience, preferably on large teams with healthcare or institutional clients.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
  • ACHA Certification Preferred
  • Healthcare - experience is desired.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
