Senior Applications Engineer, Digital Transformation

Stanley Black & Decker is expanding the reach of its digital solutions and driving increased demand for high-quality, scalable technologies to enhance efficiency and productivity across its portfolio of standard digital tools and custom support for citizen developers. The Senior Applications Engineer plays a critical role as the principal developer, responsible for managing, collaborating, and leading the development team to achieve success. This role ensures that all solutions are highly scalable, efficient, and adhere to the highest standards of quality and user experience.

Reporting to the Global Operations Excellence Technology team within the Shopfloor Digitization division, the Senior Applications Engineer works collaboratively across more than 100 sites worldwide. The position maintains key relationships with senior global leaders to gather business requirements and user stories, translate them into Statements of Work, lead solution mock-ups, and coordinate with the Scrum Master for effective delegation of sprint activities. The role is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders, and serves as a development consultant, consistently delivering innovative and reliable digital solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and drive multiple projects to completion with customers, internal teams, and third-party partners.
  • Develop and maintain processes for pre-delivery, deployment and post deployment, ensuring documentation in internal repositories.
  • Collaborate with the Tulip engineering team to scope and develop new features.
  • Serve as the technical lead on pre-deployment calls.
  • Write SQL queries, HTTP GET/POST requests
  • Deploy Tulip software apps and On-Premise connector host using Tulip Linux tools.
  • Partner with site operations to scope projects, define requirements, and ensure successful customer deployments.
  • Collaborate with business units to develop proofs of concept, prototypes, and pilots for IoT & Connected Applications, as well as IT/OT architecture.
  • Conduct relevant analysis through interviews, data collection, and internal/external research.
  • Establish frameworks and methodologies to identify, prioritize, structure, and solve problems.
  • Support objectives and timelines for deliverables in alignment with Business Unit goals, collaborating with peers and subject matter experts as needed.
  • Request feedback from key stakeholders and consistently deliver excellent customer service.
  • Complete initial technical evaluations, providing subject matter expertise with internal and external resources.
  • Ensure solutions comply with strategic direction and organizational standards.
  • Address stakeholder requirements and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Facilitate the sharing of ideas and best practices across the global network using existing and emerging technologies.
  • Provide regular updates and ongoing support to management and key stakeholders.
  • Uphold the highest standards of work quality and contribute to the success of the team.
  • Support metrics to measure the effectiveness and success of Lean Led Shopfloor Digitization initiatives at Stanley Black & Decker.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience, including:
    • 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
    • 5 years in software development (backend/frontend, UI/UX).
    • Experience in R&D, engineering, or advanced operations is highly preferred.


Travel Requirements:
  • 15%


Language:
  • English proficiency required
  • Spanish / English bilingual skills highly preferred


Skills and Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in SQL and Time Series Data, with expertise in at least one programming language (Python, C#, or JavaScript).
  • Background in web application development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and integration with RESTful APIs and SOAP web services.
  • Skilled in Linux environments and SSH.
  • Proficency developing Tulip Interfaces apps or No-code / Low-code platform
  • knowledge of Node-RED and Node.js frameworks.
  • Experience with Power Automate for workflow automation.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience using Jira for project tracking and management.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and ISA-95 standards.
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES systems, preferably SAP.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proven ability to integrate technology and business strategies to create innovative, market-driven product opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and proactive, with the ability to contribute meaningfully to projects and engagements.
  • Results-oriented team player committed to high-performance work environments.
  • Comfortable working in global, virtual team settings.
  • Able to perform effectively under pressure and maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive leadership information.
