Senior Applications Engineer - Critical Power Systems

Location: Columbus, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Starting Salary: From $100,000 annually, with higher compensation available based on experience.
Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to provide technical support for electrical power distribution solutions used in data centers and other mission-critical facilities. This position works closely with customers, sales, engineering, and operations teams to develop customized solutions, prepare technical documentation, and support projects from initial design through installation and startup.

The ideal candidate has experience with electrical power systems, customer-facing engineering support, and critical infrastructure applications.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with sales and engineering teams to develop technical solutions that meet customer and project requirements.
  • Prepare proposals, technical submittals, engineering documentation, and supporting project materials for customer review.
  • Support projects throughout the entire lifecycle, including order processing, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and commissioning.
  • Create, review, and update technical drawings, specifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise related to electrical distribution systems and critical power equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues during installation, startup, commissioning, and ongoing operation.
  • Present technical information and conduct product or application training for customers and business partners.
  • Participate in product testing, application development, and competitive product evaluations.
  • Gather customer feedback and collaborate with internal teams to recommend product improvements.
  • Travel to customer locations and project sites as needed, approximately 25% to 35%.


Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in applications engineering, design engineering, or field engineering within electrical power systems or data center infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using AutoCAD for engineering design and technical drafting.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution equipment, including switchboards, power distribution units (PDUs), static transfer switches (STS), and redundancy strategies such as N+1 and 2N architectures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically as required.
