Position Summary
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the architecture, deployment, and ongoing support of a highly distributed, multi-site IT infrastructure supporting retail stores, distribution centers, and corporate environments. This role ensures high availability, performance, and security of systems that power store operations, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and enterprise platforms across hundreds of locations.
This position requires deep expertise in managing large-scale environments, strong troubleshooting abilities in geographically dispersed systems, and a proactive approach to standardization, automation, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
- Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-level IT infrastructure (on-premises and cloud)
- Administer Windows and/or Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and storage systems
- Administer enterprise systems including:
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
- Microsoft 365 / Azure AD / identity platforms
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness
Systems & Platform Administration
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and identity services
- Oversee enterprise systems such as email, collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft 365), and identity platforms
- Oversee virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) supporting corporate and retail applications
- Maintain patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of systems
Cloud & Automation
- Support hybrid environments spanning on-premise datacenters and cloud platforms (SaaS)
- Automate system administration tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting tools
- Assist in cloud migrations and hybrid infrastructure strategies
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain security best practices across infrastructure
- Monitor vulnerabilities, apply security patches, and respond to incidents
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
Troubleshooting & Support
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent solutions
- Maintain system documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and guide junior administrators and support staff
- Collaborate with network, security, and application teams
- Contribute to IT projects, architecture planning, and strategic initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–8+ years of experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering
- Strong experience with:
- Windows Server and/or Linux environments
- Active Directory and identity management
- Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Cloud platforms (SaaS)
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls)
- Experience with backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery planning
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware)
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience in enterprise security frameworks or compliance environments
- Dell VxRail hardware solutions
