Full Job Description
Position Summary

Reporting to Accion's Controller, the Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for leading core accounting and general ledger operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and organizational standards.

This role partners closely with global accounting staff and cross-functional teams, including Treasury, Budget, HR, and Global Operations, to ensure financial integrity across grants, contracts, operating, and investing activities. The role includes management and development of accounting staff and provides day-to-day oversight and guidance across the team.

Position Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and review of financial statements (Statement of Activities, Financial Position, and Cash Flows); contribute to consolidation across Accion entities.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, revenue recognition, receivables, and net asset reconciliation.
  • Drive improvements in internal controls, data quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support the audit process, coordinating with accounting and cross-functional teams on auditor requests.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Form 990, with the ability to take on greater ownership as needed.
  • Partner with Finance Systems to support NetSuite initiatives, billing process testing, and validation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff, providing day-to-day oversight and performance feedback.


Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or active progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit or grant-funded organization experience and nonprofit audit experience; strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Hands-on ERP experience required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred, particularly supporting system implementations or process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading external audit engagements and managing auditor relationships and deliverables.
  • Strong general ledger, monthly close, and balance sheet reconciliation expertise.
  • Proven track record designing and strengthening internal controls and driving process improvement.
  • At least two years directly supervising accounting staff, with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and hold a team accountable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Spanish proficiency preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $115K - $128K
  • The above salary range serves as a general guideline. Accion considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, training, skills, location, current market conditions as well as internal pay alignment.
