Position SummarySouthern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, in a fast-paced work environment.
The Senior Accountant is a highly-motivated individual responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting of assigned properties. Responsibilities include performing creating development draw packages, month-end close, reconciliation of accounts on a monthly basis, posting journal entries, completing monthly bank reconciliations, reviewing final product, and other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform monthly full-cycle accounting functions for Single-Family home building and development projects including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and monitoring/reviewing receivables and payables.
- Review and maintain cash balances for assigned entities. Must submit funding requests as necessary and approve bill payments.
- Ensure timely payment of real estate taxes.
- Complete the monthly construction draw process for assigned development entities and assist with the month-end financial close process of those entities, including related owner entities. Process includes reviewing job costs for budget variances, cost code errors, and other posting errors on invoices, etc.
- Support the Single-Family Controller by serving as a first level reviewer for monthly draw reporting packages, monthly financial packets, and other reports as requested.
- Assist with year-end audits and tax returns.
- Participate in special projects and prepare ad-hoc reports as required.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience - Strong analytical and organizational skills required, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent time management skills, drive to take initiative, use of good judgment, strong sense of urgency and attention to detail in order to carry multiple projects through to completion
- Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers through email, on the phone and in person
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
- Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary
Required Education and Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, with strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
- 3-5 years of accounting experience with relevant construction or real estate experience preferred
- Sage Intacct preferred
Preferred Education and Experience- CPA license considered a strong plus
- Public accounting experience preferred
