Overview

The Nexus Water Group Accounting team is seeking a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant performs advanced accounting analysis and reporting to support accurate financial records, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and informed business decision-making. This role is responsible for researching and resolving complex accounting issues, improving accounting processes and procedures, preparing specialized financial analyses and reports, and serving as a resource to management on accounting matters. The Senior Accountant may also provide guidance and direction to other accounting staff on projects and initiatives.

Work location and Schedule

The Senior Accountant will be primarily based at our office in Sugar Land, TX . Minimum 3 days per week, with up to 2 days of work-from-home.

The Senior Accountant does the following:
  • Analyze complex accounting transactions, financial data, and operational information to support accounting activities, management reporting, regulatory requirements, and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare, review, and present detailed financial analyses, reports, and documentation for management, auditors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; identify opportunities for improvement and develop recommendations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Lead or participate in special accounting projects, audits, and process improvement initiatives, including documenting workflows, developing procedures, and implementing new processes.
  • Research and interpret accounting guidance, regulatory requirements, and company policies to resolve complex accounting issues and provide recommendations to management.
  • Reconcile accounts, review financial records, and assess accounting transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established standards and controls.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to gather information, resolve issues, and support organizational objectives.
  • Provide guidance, training, and project-based leadership to accountants and other accounting support personnel as needed.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, audits, regulatory reporting, and other accounting functions.


What You'll Bring

Experience
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, accounting systems, and internal controls.
  • Experience performing complex financial analysis, account reconciliations, and accounting research.
  • Experience working with accounting software and ERP systems.


Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting processes.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex financial information and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, quality, and timely completion of work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to a variety of audiences.

  • Effective collaboration and relationship-building skills with employees at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and experience working with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as SAP.

Work Environment

  • Primarily performed in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting, computer, and keyboard use.
