Job Description


Role Overview: Senior Accountant, Revenue Accounting

Arlington, VA | In-office, Monday-Friday

We are seeking hands-on Senior Accountant, Revenue Accounting to prepare workpapers for revenue accounting function. This role will be responsible for preparing workpapers related to revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with ASC 606, optimizing financial processes, and partnering cross-functionally to support Costar's continued growth. Revenue close responsibilities include preparation of (i) monthly journal entries, (ii) account reconciliations, and (iii) variance analyses related to the monthly results. This position will also collaborate with the Financial Planning and Analysis, Billings, Cash collections and Revenue Service teams to assist in the monthly close process and to understand fluctuations from budget and forecast.  

The Senior Accountant should have a general knowledge Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and experience (i) working within a monthly close process, (ii) preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, (iii) identifying and improving monthly processes. The Senior Accountant should be eager to learn and demonstrate strong communication, time management and organizational skills. The Senior Accountant will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.  

This position may get exposure to technical accounting issues and interactions with external auditors related to the close process, account reconciliations and variance analyses.  

Revenue Accounting & Compliance:

  • Prepare workpapers related to revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, ensuring accurate and timely revenue reporting. 
    Prepare the workpapers and interpretation of customer contracts, ensuring proper accounting treatment and adherence to revenue policies. 
  • Ensure to apply process improvements in revenue recognition, billing, and reporting to enhance accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Ensure compliance and internal controls related to revenue processes. 
  • Coordinate with external auditors to support revenue-related audit requirements. \
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly revenue close processes related workpapers, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper cut-off. 


Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership: 

  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Legal, FP&A, and Product teams to evaluate revenue implications of new business models, pricing strategies, and product offerings. 
  • Review SaaS, software, and professional services contracts, ensuring proper revenue treatment and identifying risks. 


Systems & Process Optimization 

  • Enhance and automate revenue accounting processes leveraging Oracle. 
  • Drive scalability in revenue operations to support Costar’s continued expansion across global markets. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university.    
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.  
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience in a large, international public company and/or a Big 4 accounting firm. Three (3) years of experience may be considered for candidates who are a CPA or who hold a Master’s degree in Accounting. 
  • Experience preparing or reviewing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.  
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.  
  • General knowledge of GAAP guidelines and ability to enhance knowledge and apply to a variety of situations.  
  • Familiarity with systems and optimizing use of systems to generate data for analyses.  
  • Strong Excel skills required.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA candidate. 
  • Experience working in Big 4 accounting firms and a high-growth, global organization. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ASC 606 a plus 
  • Process implementation experience.  
  • Knowledge in ASC 606 and revenue recognition within SaaS/software and eCommerce business models, including subscription-based revenue streams.

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.

Base Compensation: $89,000.00 - $116,000.00 Annually
